As other manly men know, it can be a difficult lifestyle. Chopping down trees with your bare hands sounds awesome, but after doing it for an hour or two it can become a bit dull. That goes double if there are no bears to wrestle nearby.

Podcasts have always been a great way to reduce tedium, but a real manly man can’t listen to just any podcast. He needs one that will sonically stimulate the growth of chest hair! Fortunately, I’ve located a few podcasts for men that should do just that.

Autoline After Hours

podcasts for men

Men care about cars, and no podcast provides more information about the auto industry than Autoline After Hours. Hosted by automotive journalist John McElroy, who is usually joined by Peter DeLorenzo of Auto Extremist fame, this podcast provides information about the hottest new cars and touches on inside baseball you won’t hear about anywhere else.

The years of experience of the show’s host makes it possible for him to bring in the most influential names in the business including not only top executives but also racing legends, designers and engineers. Better yet, John and Peter have the knowledge necessary to throw guests interesting questions that provide insight you won’t hear on other automotive podcasts.

The Adam Corolla Show – And Ace of the House

men podcast

No list of the best manly podcasts would be complete without Adam Corolla, would it? After all, he was once the co-host of the man show, and he still practices a male-centric brand of comedy that darts from the crude to the intelligent in a flash.

The Adam Corolla Show is a comedy podcast, and their guests show it. A recent episode featured the Insane Clown Posse, for example. Guys looking for a more constructive use of their time – literally – might want to check out Ace of the House, a podcast hosted by Adam that focuses on home repair.

The B.S. Report

men podcast

Okay, I’ll let you in on a secret. I’m a guy, but also a geek, so sports are not my natural habit. Still, I sometimes keep track of what’s happening, particularly during the American football season. And that’s when I tune in to The B.S. Report.

Hosted by Bill Simmons, the B.S. report isn’t a strict news show, although current events in sports are always the topic. Instead, the podcast is a mix of hard-hitting interviews, personal rants and commentary.  As the podcast’s name implies, the B.S. Report has a take-no-prisoners, and Bill doesn’t hesitate to call out his guests when he thinks they’re wrong, or trying to side-step a question.

Hardcore History

podcasts for men

I know what you’re thinking. History? That’s not for manly men, right? It’s too academic, too dull, too musty!

Certainly, that can be the case. But let’s step back and think about it. History – as a feminist will be happy to point out – is a manly story. It’s all about conquering nations, outwitting foes, and prevailing in the face of certain defeat. Given the right voice, there’s a lot to be excited about, and a few lessons to learn along the way.

Dan Carlin is the right voice. He doesn’t hang up on facts and figures, but instead touches on the underlying humanity inherent in the past. Power, fame, and victory – as well as poverty, need, and loss – are at the core of Dan’s show, and those are topics every man should want to address.

Conclusion

So there you have it. If you’re a dude, well - dude, go download these podcasts for men. They’re sure to inspire you the next time you’re boxing a shark. Oh, and as always, feel free to leave your own recommendations in the comments.
