I use Caffeine to keep my Mac from falling asleep (http://www.lightheadsw.com/) and Zooom to give me more control over moving and resizing windows (http://coderage-software.com/zooom/). I also recommend Keyclick, to give me auditory feedback for keystrokes (http://www.sustworks.com/site/prod_keyclick_overview.html).

Second nod for Meteo. I've tried 'em all and this is the only one that has been so unobtrusive that I haven't ditched it.

Also, three cheers for Caffeine, InsomniaX (for those times when you need to shut the lid on your Mac but don't want the music to go!).

I actually use smcFan Control in addition to iStat menus; the smc tile puts the temp on top of the fan speed, halving the real estate of the two iStats.

In that vein, I also love SlimBatteryMonitor, which is pretty self-explanatory..

Caffeine is great. Weatherbug is pretty good, but Meteo is even better. Open source, more options, consumes less resources, less buggy.

If there's adware in it, I didn't see any. It just sits there and tells me the current temp (which just happens to be 15°C)

Great article Jason.

I get my Menu bar apps from a reservoir:

I thought WeatherBug came with adware. Why would you *want* that? There has to be a better panel applet (or whatever Mac people call them) for weather than that.
