5 Excellent Ways to Waste Time Online

The greatest luxury of our time is time itself. Thus it’s a deadly sin to simply waste it. As we all know time is relative and the more fun you have, the faster time passes. Being bored is the most cruel way to waste time. So, in our quest to happiness, I advise you never to be bored, always be occupied and busy, and most of all, enjoy what you’re doing!

These are my TOP 5 in covering time gaps with more joy and less boredom:

(1) Ask 500 People

What a hilarious site, promising to show you the world opinion while you watch. It’s not just a boring poll, it’s an interactive experience! A question, a map of the world with pins for each vote, the current results, a list of countries that recently voted and lots more.

I love the design, it’s very well done. To vote for the question at hand, pull down the green vote tab in the top right corner of the map, and click your answer. As I’m writing this they’re asking “Do you pee in the shower?”. No one said polls had to be relevant, right? To vote on more important matters, choose the Upcoming Questions tab at the bottom of the map, and click a question that interests you.

Why is it worth it to sign up? Because you will be able to vote on the best open questions, submit your own questions, leave a comment, create yet another cool profile, set different options, and become famous.

This site has also been profiled in the MUO directory.

(2) Guess-the-Google

A 5×5 square of Google images, all fetched with the same keyword, and you have to guess which one. Fun little game and there’s a highscore to beat too. Good luck!

(3) Tastespotting

Go through mouthwatering images, recipes and food instructions. You’ll be dying to run to the kitchen and prepare something delicious or even healthy. I loved the post about frozen eggs, now I want to know what it feels like. The one about the Mocha Melted Ice-Cream Cake with Chocolate Marshmallow Frosting almost made me violate my diet. *bites lips* Oh food, one of the three best sources of joy and youth!

The other two are sleep and sex. Just in case you were wondering.

(4) Not Always Right

I used to get a kick out of these “help desk” fun mails. You know, like the one where the customer complains about their computer not working and over the course of the conversation it turns out there was a blackout in the whole street! I screamed with laughter.

These days joke mails are annoying time wasters, reading blogs is much cooler. This site is full with stories like the one above. Anyone can add their own quotes or vote on existing ones.

(5) LiveMarks

This site has been an addiction and blogging inspiration of mine for almost two years. The design is dull, but the whole idea is pretty interesting. On the left you see the top recent bookmarks from social bookmarking sites and on the right all bookmarks scroll by as people bookmark them. There is lots of junk on both sides, but it’s worth following since there are many gems to be caught, even ones that don’t ever make it to Digg. ;)

What are your favorite time waster fillers on the world wide web? Please share with us in the comments! Bonus points for the person that comes up with the URL to that site where you team up live with another player to guess the Google tag of a shown picture. Nasty little game, just like #2, unfortunately I lost the link!

I love eating and the Tastespotting one just wants me to gobble up each one of those dishes :D

But unfortunately, I ain’t that good at cooking so maybe I will have to satisfy myself by just looking at such tasty food.
