Ah, Instagram video. Those 15 seconds of glory and art. We told you everything you need to know about creating Instagram videos, but what if you want to download them, share them, and view them at your leisure?
Whether it’s your own amazing creations or your friends’, downloading videos off Instagram is easy as pie. Just choose one of the methods below and get cracking.
Similar to the numerous websites that let you download YouTube videos, all InstaDown needs is a URL. To get the video’s URL, open an Instagram Web profile (for example: instagram.com/makeuseof), click on the video you want download, and copy the URL from the address bar.
Paste this URL into InstaDown and click on the the yellow “Instadown” button. Within seconds, your browser will start downloading the MP4 file. That’s it; it really is as simple as that.
You can also click on the blue “Get BB Link” button to get a direct link to your video for sharing outside of Instagram. Pretty awesome for those friends and family that don’t use Instagram, but still deserve to enjoy your videos.
Want to download all your Instagram videos? Or maybe every Instagram video you like? You don’t have to run to InstaDown with every URL, you can simply set up an IFTTT recipe.
In case you’re unfamiliar with it, IFTTT (If This Then That) is an automation service that lets you automate pretty much anything in your online life. From your iPhone to your eBook reading, the options are pretty much endless. And yes, you can harness the power of IFTTT to download Instagram videos as well. How?
In order to get this working, you’re going to need an IFTTT account, an Instagram account and a Dropbox account. Next, you need to choose: do you want to download every video you upload, or every video you like? Choose a recipe accordingly, and let IFTTT take you through the process of enabling it.
The end result would be an automatic process in which any Instagram video you add or like is automatically downloaded and added to your chosen Dropbox folder. What could be simpler than that?

Not happy with InstaDown for some reason? SaveDeo is another super-simple way to download Instagram videos, and also works with YouTube, Vimeo, MetaCafe, and many other services. Here too, all you have to do is paste the video URL in the box and click “download”. You’re then redirected to a new page with an image preview and a download link.
Clicking the link lets you view the video in your browser outside of Instagram (meaning you can also share it), and right-clicking and choosing “Save link as…” will download the file to your computer.
Note that SaveDeo will show your video in its recent downloads list. Since Instagram is usually not a private affair, this shouldn’t bother most users, but it’s good to be aware of that.
Flow for Instagram (iPad)
Want your Instagram videos on your iPad? Free Instagram client Flow (our review) lets you do just that. Not only will you get a new and improved Instagram experience that far surpasses the native app, you’ll also be able to instantly download any video (or photo) with one tap.
When viewing the video of your choice, tap the three dots on the bottom right corner and choose “Save to Camera Roll”. You will then be able to access the video on your iPad at any time, online or offline. Easy.
As easy as it is to download videos off Instagram, don’t forget that you have no rights over videos you did not create. Yes, you can download them. Yes, you can enjoy them. But don’t go uploading them as your own, or distributing them in any way, especially without due credit. You wouldn’t want the same thing done to you.
