This isn't going to be a fun post. I'm sorry, but it's about doing chores. If there were anything enjoyable about getting them done, they would have a different name. However, having an app that lets you organize those boring little jobs so that you can get them done more effectively might just make them a little less grueling.

If you, your family, or your roommates struggle with daily household tasks, there are tools out there that can help. Here are five apps you can install right away on your Android phone or tablet.

1. OurHome

What if doing chores was as fun as playing a game? Well, OurHome tries to make that happen. Create a list of tasks, assign point values to each one, and watch as your kids, significant other, or roommate go about getting the work done.

And no, they won't do this just to get the highest score. They're after the rewards that you create. Want a new video game? 200 points. Want to host another sleepover? 150. Sure, you could call this bribery. Depending on your circumstances, you might also call it effective.

OurHome isn't just a chore manager. You can also use the app to create a shopping list that syncs across devices. With the ability to like or comment on anything someone does, the experience may even feel like a tiny social network. This is enhanced by the ability to send any member of the household a private message.

2. Tody

Tody is a simple yet useful app that allows you to organize your chores effectively. The app allows you to select specific rooms, such as your kitchen, living room, or bathroom, and then gives you option of creating specific chore lists for each one. You can also color code each room for ease.

On your chore lists, you'll see a bar that indicates whether or not a task is due. The app will also provide a daily chores list that will notify you of tasks that need to be done on any given day. You can choose which day to view so that you know which tasks are coming up.

The app does offer a premium version, but this is just for those who have multiple properties, such as a vacation home.

3. Clean House

So you're sold on the idea of using an app to organize your chores, but you could do without the gimmicks. In that case, try out Clean House. There are no points here. There aren't any rewards. You simply create a list of chores and set how often they repeat. A notification will appear when it's time to get stuff done.

Note that Clean House doesn't sync across multiple devices. This is a tool for keeping you in check. If more than one person intends to use the app, you each will need to keep your own list. Can you trust them with that responsibility? If not, well, scroll back up and select from the options above.

4. Nipto

Nipto works well for any user, but for families in particular. Nipto allows you to attribute points to tasks so that children will feel like they are earning something as they carry out their chores. However, this can also be used in a house share, or even with your partner, to boost general morale and make chores a little more fun.

Nipto will keep you updated on which chores haven't been completed for a while, and will provide you with a task calendar so that you can see which tasks are coming up and which are overdue.

You can also categorize each task into rooms, or task groups, such as those for the kitchen, living room, or those that involve clothing or trash. You can totally organize your chores to make sure everyone is doing their bit, and no part of your home is getting neglected.

5. Sweepy

The Sweepy app allows you to organize your chores by room so that you can more effectively carry them out. With each room, you can add relevant chores, either from the app's suggested chores list, or via the customized chores option.

The app will also give each room a cleanliness rating, based on which tasks have been added and which tasks have been completed. You can also keep a chores streak by completing some every day. Thankfully, the app will also provide you with a "wildcard", which gives you a day off of completing chores without losing your streak.

There are some features on the app that you can only access via its premium version, such as the chores schedule. The app's premium version is pretty affordable, just a couple of dollars a month, but you can get a lot done by simply sticking with the free version.

Use a General To-Do List

You don't have to pick out a dedicated app for chores. If you're already using a to-do list app to keep your life in order, it's pretty straightforward to just add your chores to the rest of your tasks. Evernote, Google Keep, Todoist, and many others can get the job done just fine. Here's a list of some of the best to-do list apps for Android if you need help picking one out.

Or if you want to keep things retro, we're not against a simple paper-based to-do list! You can even find to-do list and chores notepads online that have pre-set categories you can fill out to suit your cleaning needs.
