One of the most surprising things the iPhone brought us was gaming. When the app store launched, everyone knew there would be some cool stuff, but what I do not think anyone expected was just how great the iPhone was going to be as a portable gaming machine. I own a PSP and a 3Ds and I can honestly say that I do more gaming on my iPhone than I do both of those devices combined. That is not to say they are bad devices for gaming, it is more about how convenient the iPhone is to game on, and how genuinely good the games are.
Another thing the iPhone brings to the table that the other portable gaming machines do not is free games. The app store has thousands of free iPhone games available, and the shocking thing is some of them are actually very good. Personally, I think free is the best price. Anytime I can get a quality product without having to open my wallet, I am happy. The games on this list are great games, and they will not cost you a cent.
Office Jerk is a game that has been at the top of the most popular free apps in the app store for a long time now. It is a simple game, and sometimes that is just want you are looking when gaming on the go. The game is rated four and half stars in the app store, which is nothing to sneeze at.
The premise of the game is simple. You have to fling objects at the annoying guy in the office. You can throw everything from a cupcake to a computer monitor, and each one hurts him differently.
The throwing mechanics are similar to Paper Toss. There is a fan blowing at various speeds, and you have to play to angle to make the item hit the office jerk. Office Jerk is an easy game to pick up and play and is a lot of fun.
Amazing Breaker is a very pretty puzzle game that involves using various types of bombs to blow up designs made of glass. Each bomb behaves differently, and the key to the game is figuring out how to use each bomb in each situation.
It is a simple concept that is very addictive. It requires a creative and active mind to solve all the different types of puzzles. The game has over 20 levels, and the developers promise to keep it updated with more in the future.
Like Office Jerk, Amazing Breaker has a four and half star rating on the app store, and has been at or near the top of the free apps list for some time. It is a fun game that is worth checking out if you like puzzle games and beautiful graphics.
Temple Run is one of those run to survive games you see a lot on the iPhone, but it has a twist that makes it worthy of this list. Instead of just being a line running in 2D space, you are an person in a 3D world, and the game uses the 3D to influence the game play.
The goal is to survive as long as possible, while tilting your device and swiping to screen to navigate the environment and collect as many coins as you can. It is a lot of fun, and it is an easy game to lose a lot of time to. Temple Run is score based, and it has social integration to share your performance. Having friends that are playing adds to the replay value because you are always trying to best their scores.
This game is not quite at the top of the App store, but it is in the top fifty. It has a little over a four star rating, and is a game I definitely recommend checking out if you are looking for an awesome free iPhone game.
These three free iPhone games are a great way to kill a lot of time. All three of these games are good enough that I would easily be willing to pay for them, and the fact that they are free is fantastic.
