I was using Free Download Manager. The main reason being that it has a great feature where you can sort files into folders named by date, for example /Jan 09/, /Feb 09/, etc. and I really liked that.

But now that I'm using RapidShare Premium, I find Flashget is better, as I can highlight a large amount of download links and press CTRL+C, then Flashget will automatically ask me if I want to download them all, in which I click yes.

Although with Flashget, I'm rather concerned about the possible trojan it could download (a Google search will tell you more about that), so I'd rather be using a different download manager with the same feature.

I'm just trying Orbit. I like the GUI, very nice. The 'download complete' notification is great, with the 'open' link. The other two download managers lack that feature.

Downfalls with Orbit for me are: it isn't automatically putting in the server username and password which I've added to the Site Manager.. the Clipboard Monitoring doesn't always work.. and the download window regularly appears in the background behind Firefox, rather than in front.

Now to try RapidGet.. clipboard monitor works well. RapidShare site manager works perfect. GUI is okay, could be better. Would personally rather it installed rather than it being portable, but still pretty good.

RapidHarvest.. limit features. Can't get Premium support to work. Doesn't really do much.

Internet Download Accelerator.. GUI is probably the best out of all the above. Clipboard monitor works well. Site Manager works fine. Shame it's only a trial.

Try this Rapidshare download manager: http://home.deds.nl/~rapiddownload

It knows: auto download, auto rename files, auto change IP, auto retry download, skip already downloaded files, etc.

How big it is? only 14Kb!!! Assembly Language program.

I installed RapGet, and tried DL'ing, but it didn't work. It cycled through retries a few times, then I stopped it. I don't have a premium account with RapidShare.

I checked my OpenSSL to make sure I didn't have an older version than the required v0.9.6m -- the OpenSLL that was already installed was OpenSSL 0.9.8e. So I should be fine with the OpenSSL, right?

Next I tried DL'ing the file from the browser, and it worked fine. Either I'm missing something, or maybe RapGet doesn't work very well out of the box.

I'll try jDownloader next. It's already in English for me 8^)

Wow, that was quite a bit of studying, but it appears like it's working. Make sure to go through Extras/Configuration/Advanced Configuration button(bottom left)/Hosts, then checkmark the DL sites you wish to use, indicating you agree to each DL site's TOS before trying to DL anything.

I wish I had avoided jDownloader plugins, that was half the studying, and now it's DL'ing them from RapidShare, so I'll have to wait quite some time before knowing if my actual Dl's work 8^)

Great thread, thanks!

Rapidshare Downloader. It can only download one file at a time, then the 15 minute waiting period messes it up, but it's better than nothing. The best thing is that there are no settings. Just add the links, click start, and it does the rest. I tried messing around with the settings on Rapget, like how long to wait between rotations, but it never started the download. I then tried Rapidshare Downloader and it worked. I think Rapidshare Downloader is good if you only download a few files, like me.
