3 Alternative Rapidshare Download Managers
Before we start, let me get something straight first: I hate Rapidshare. It’s annoying how they always try to get to your wallet – “upgrade to our premium account, or else!” and ‘else’ here means: “you’ll have to put up with limited and slower uploads and downloads, time restraints, and other annoyances.”
But what I hate most about this file sharing service is that – being one of the pioneers in the file sharing business – almost everybody uses Rapidshare and you can find almost everything there. So we just have to grit our teeth and accept it as it is.
Or do we?
I’ve searched the web and actually found quite a few Rapidshare download managers which can overcome Rapidshare limitations (or at least some of the limitations) but not each and every one of them can be used ‘conveniently’ – some of them are not in English, some others are spyware, some can’t be downloaded.
So, here are only three slightly better-than-the-others choices which will make your ‘rapidsharing’ life easier. All for Windows only unfortunately. I wasn’t lucky enough to find anything for other OS’s. But no worries, you can still check out cool Rapidshare tools that we covered earlier.
Let’s assume that you already have the Rapidshare location of the file you want to download (if not, look at this Rapidshare search engine to give you a headstart). Therefore all that is left to do is to download the file conveniently with one of these tools:
1. RapGet

The first recommended app is RapGet. This is a small standalone Rapidshare download client – only around 200KB – which can help you download multiple files from Rapidshare if you have the Premium Account. But if you use the free account, it will download one file at a time, and automatically wait a specified period of time before attempting to download your next file. So just enter all your Rapidshare URL’s and it will download them all for you one at a time.
Besides that, RapGet also supports 60 other file hosting services such as MegaUpload, Box.net and others which work similar to Rapidshare. All you need to do is enter your file hosting account login information.
2. RapidHarvest

If you are longing for a Rapidshare download manager with scripting ability, then maybe you’ve just found the solution.
You can add multiple links to be downloaded by using menu File –> Import –> From Text. This feature is very convenient for those who use Rapidshare regularly, as many of the large downloads are chunked into smaller files.
3. Rapidme

Rapidme is an all-in-one Rapidshare tool. You can share your links which you submitted on Rapidshare, Megaupload.com, and Sendfile.com. Rapidme also lets you search, rate and add links.
But even though Rapidme has no spyware, no adware, and is 100% free to use; it’s ad supported. It’ll show an advertising banner on the lower part of the window. So it’s up to you whether that bothers you or not.
If you know any other unknown but good Rapidshare download managers, or know similar apps which work under Mac or Linux, please share them using the comments below.

Don’t forget Raptor and jDownloader (originally german, you have to change language).
Thanks for the input, I’ll try both of them. (In German? Can you help explaining how to change the language?)
yeah jDownloader is the best downloader so far, its regularly updated. i’ve been using for a month or so and love it. Should add it to your list.
Once again this site leaves me speechless.
How the heck do you guys come up with so much great content?
I ♥ MakeUseOf!
Let the world know it!
I couldn’t get any of them to work so I’ll stick with my Firefox add-on.
Really? No problem here. BTW, what Firefox add-on do you use?
Rapidshare Downloader. It can only download one file at a time, then the 15 minute waiting period messes it up, but it’s better than nothing. The best thing is that there are no settings. Just add the links, click start, and it does the rest. I tried messing around with the settings on Rapget, like how long to wait between rotations, but it never started the download. I then tried Rapidshare Downloader and it worked. I think Rapidshare Downloader is good if you only download a few files, like me.
(Comments wont nest below this level)I’ve been using Cryptload for a while now. It’s pretty good, I might switch to one of these though.
Thanks for the info. I’ll try Cryptload.
I use DownThemAll add-on in firefox on my windows box and Speed Download on my Mac. Both very simple to use!
I installed RapGet, and tried DL’ing, but it didn’t work. It cycled through retries a few times, then I stopped it. I don’t have a premium account with RapidShare.
I checked my OpenSSL to make sure I didn’t have an older version than the required v0.9.6m — the OpenSLL that was already installed was OpenSSL 0.9.8e. So I should be fine with the OpenSSL, right?
Next I tried DL’ing the file from the browser, and it worked fine. Either I’m missing something, or maybe RapGet doesn’t work very well out of the box.
I’ll try jDownloader next. It’s already in English for me 8^)
Wow, that was quite a bit of studying, but it appears like it’s working. Make sure to go through Extras/Configuration/Advanced Configuration button(bottom left)/Hosts, then checkmark the DL sites you wish to use, indicating you agree to each DL site’s TOS before trying to DL anything.
I wish I had avoided jDownloader plugins, that was half the studying, and now it’s DL’ing them from RapidShare, so I’ll have to wait quite some time before knowing if my actual Dl’s work 8^)
Great thread, thanks!

I use IDM “Internet Download Manager”
It’s the Dogs Chooners
ye IDM is very good but this is bout rapidshare. google for; rapidshare account checker 3.4 software for stress free Crapidshare
wet myself on the 4th comment lmfao
I was using Free Download Manager. The main reason being that it has a great feature where you can sort files into folders named by date, for example /Jan 09/, /Feb 09/, etc. and I really liked that.
But now that I’m using RapidShare Premium, I find Flashget is better, as I can highlight a large amount of download links and press CTRL+C, then Flashget will automatically ask me if I want to download them all, in which I click yes.
Although with Flashget, I’m rather concerned about the possible trojan it could download (a Google search will tell you more about that), so I’d rather be using a different download manager with the same feature.
I’m just trying Orbit. I like the GUI, very nice. The ‘download complete’ notification is great, with the ‘open’ link. The other two download managers lack that feature.
Downfalls with Orbit for me are: it isn’t automatically putting in the server username and password which I’ve added to the Site Manager.. the Clipboard Monitoring doesn’t always work.. and the download window regularly appears in the background behind Firefox, rather than in front.
Now to try RapidGet.. clipboard monitor works well. RapidShare site manager works perfect. GUI is okay, could be better. Would personally rather it installed rather than it being portable, but still pretty good.
RapidHarvest.. limit features. Can’t get Premium support to work. Doesn’t really do much.
Internet Download Accelerator.. GUI is probably the best out of all the above. Clipboard monitor works well. Site Manager works fine. Shame it’s only a trial.
Fuck! rapidshare and also other fucking file sharing services.
FUCK PRAK, FUCK ANYONE THAT LOOKS LIKE PRAK FUCK OTHE PRAK SHARING SERVICES!

Try RSDownloader for downloading files from rapidshare.
http://kearey.homeip.net/downloads/rsdownloader.aspx
For linux users there is TUCAN, and it is in Ubuntu repositories.
Not as complete as jDownloader, but it is surely on the right road – as for current version 0.3.8.
Supports also megaupload and depositfiles, it passes captchas and you can add passwords for it to unpack the files after download.
Rapidshare from console try rdl
