DinPattern is a collection of high-quality patterns, ones that would feel right at home on your favorite skateboard deck or funky clothing brand.

Images are available as GIFs, PNGs, or JPEGs and are free to use in a commercial or non-commercial context. Explicit permission is required to use the patterns on any type of printed material, platform, or project, however.

2. Brusheezy

Brusheezy has hundreds of free Photoshop patterns available for download. You'll find many, many Photoshop brushes here as well, and even these can be used to enhance your background pattern designs.

3. Ava7patterns

Ava7patterns offers cute and fun patterns. The chance to download patterns directly from the creator themselves is also a bonus.

To cut to the chase, you can browse these patterns by the most downloaded, the most commented, or the top rated. These background patterns are free to use; a credit link is not required but, as always, is appreciated.

4. Pattern8

Pattern8 offers a small collection of patterns available for free download. These polished and professional-looking selections are high quality and can be used anywhere in need of a little bit of pizzazz, from your website to a PowerPoint presentation.

5. FBrushes

FBrushes is a resource offering more than just patterns; you'll also find brushes and textures to download, as well.

The collection is relatively small, but especially the artists among us are likely to find something to love here. These free patterns are ornate and earnest, perfect for someone hoping to make the statement of a lifetime.

7. PixelDecor

The PixelDecor homepage.

PixelDecor has a fabulous collection of retro patterns available to download. These bold selections are all 60s, 70s, and 80s inspired—loud colors, groovy shapes, and a free-spirited vibe that will brighten anybody's day.

Unfortunately, they're only free to use in a non-commercial context. If you're just trying to spruce up your Twitter page, these background patterns will be just the thing.

8. Patterns of Change

We love the Patterns of Change site; Liza Phoenix lets you browse her wares by color and shape, and they're all incredible designs.

These background patterns are free to use personally. To use them commercially, you'll need to set up a recurring donation to her charity of choice, Action Against Hunger. Art with a heart? We're all in.

DeviantArt is another great resource for unique patterns that come straight from the creators themselves.

You'll have to check to see whether each artist allows commercial or non-commercial use but, with attribution, we find that most of these creators are happy to contribute. It's a huge community, so there are thousands to choose from.

Adobe Stock is home to millions of stock patterns for your projects.

Adobe Stock boasts one of the most abundant collections of background patterns available currently, and they're free to download with a trial.

You will not find a more appealing amalgamation of generic background patterns. No matter what your site, project, or presentation is going for, you'll find something suitable here to adorn it with.

Sure, you could always choose to keep things simple with a solid color background for your site, or simple geometry like stripes or polka dots. With so much talent available to you for free, why settle?
