If you are someone who loves to customize and spruce up your browsing experience on Firefox, it is likely that you use tools like Personas Plus. This is a great extension for skinning Firefox with a picture. But, what if you want to take it a step further?

The Firefox Add-On site has what are called Complete Themes and these do more than just give you a cool picture. They can change your button images, customize your tabs and menus, and overall give Firefox that whole themed package.

There are close to 500 of these Complete Themes on the Firefox Add-On site. Unfortunately, most do not work with the most current version, Firefox 44. Luckily, we have a nice list of those that do. So, for those who enjoy the customization options available in Firefox, there might be the perfect one here to suit your taste or mood.

Classic Woodgrain

Walnut for Firefox is a well-designed theme if you like the wood look. Your tabs, menus, and windows will have a cool wooden look and feel. Walnut 2 for Firefox has the same design, but supports many different extensions such as Quicknote, Calendar, and others. The colors are pleasing to the eye and the background is beautiful.

Heavy Metal

Metal Lion Australis Theme has a sleek, brushed metal design with cool purple buttons. From your tabs to your menus to your windows to your extension buttons, this Complete Theme covers it all.

If you like the metal look, but are not a fan of purple, there are a couple of variations you can check out. Metal Lion Australis Tiger SP and Metal Lion Australis Graphite both provide the metal look and feel with different accent colors.

For the Kiddos

Kids should enjoy their browsing experience too and Scribblies Kids is perfect. The buttons are in a cartoon-style and the window backgrounds have a comical computer.

It’s a pretty light blue, suitable for both boys and girls. And, you do not have to be a kid to like Scribblies because there are two variations that adults might like too. Scribblies Brite has vibrant colors and Scribblies Plain gives you the same button images but with a white background.

For the Trekkies

LCARStrek gives you bright, neon-colored accents with the same look as the LCARS interface from the Federation Star ships. Even if you are not a “Star Trek” fan, this theme is still awesome. The rounded borders, vibrant colors, and total package for your tabs, menus, and windows make Firefox really pop with this Complete Theme.

Bright and Cheerful

For a colorful Complete Theme, the Aeon options are great choices. Aeon Clouds gives you a lovely cloudy blue background which is a personal favorite. Aeon provides a white, subtly-striped background, Aeon Colors brings some bright accents, and Aeon Big is good for those who like large button icons.

Blending It Together

Nautipolis for Firefox is a neat theme that blends nautical, retro, and other designs into one. So, while there may not be lively colors in this theme as some of the others have, it has an understated attractiveness with a simple gray skin and bold-colored buttons. Of course, your tabs, menus, and windows will all carry the same appealing look.

Make Your Buttons Cute

According to the developer, Qute 6++ is a version of Arvid Axelsson’s icon set Qute, which goes back to the old Phoenix days of Firefox. While the background is plain white, the buttons are cute and cheery. A variation on this theme called Qute 5++ looks quite similar with slight adjustments to the button images.

Dark is Dark

If you like black backgrounds and humble buttons styles, then there are two terrific choices. NASA Night Launch is a gorgeous dark theme with elegantly simple button icons. This one lets you concentrate on your Web page content without anything flashy.

The other option is FT DeepDark which looks very much like the NASA Night Launch. There are subtle differences in accent colors, however, the overall effect is the same. So, if you like dark themes with basic colors and images, either one of these is perfect for you.

Back to Basic

Maybe dark is not your thing, but simple is, so go Simple White. There are no bells and whistles, pictures or backgrounds, this is your basic white Complete Theme. Simple White X is also available which has slightly different styled buttons. But, both give you the white you want for all your tabs, menus, and windows.

More Terrific Options

Bricks for Firefox has a cool concrete brick look and feel with bold colored buttons.

Blue Fox Theme has awesome looking blue buttons on a dark background for an almost galactic feel.

Nuvola FF has cute, bubbly, colorful buttons on a sleek gray background.

MicroFox for Firefox has 8-bit graphic styled buttons which are attractive, small, and unobtrusive.

Firefox 2, the theme, reloaded brings back exactly what it says, the clean look and feel of Firefox 2.

Find More Complete Themes

If these still are not your cup of tea or if you have an older version of Firefox and want to browse through more options, you can do this easily on Firefox’s Add-Ons site. Just select Themes from the top navigation and then at the bottom of the pop-up click Complete Themes.

As you browse through the hundreds of themes, those unavailable for your version of Firefox will be slightly grayed out. And, if you slide your mouse over a Complete Theme option it will also show you if it is unavailable for your version in a standout red font.
