11 Free MP3 Albums & EPs To Download [Sound Sunday]

soundsunday 11 Free MP3 Albums & EPs To Download [Sound Sunday]Sometimes I wonder whether Sound Sunday compiles me. This week I started off with Amy Lynn’s single, added a couple of albums from my backlog, and went to find more to complete this edition. As it was time to put the post together, I found I needed to drop albums and replace them with others. What was previously a varied mix had purified into a soul, blues, and folk lead with a sudden switch via a wild summer sampler to an electronic & hip hop beats finale. Enjoy this musical ride!

All EPs and albums can be downloaded for free. That said, we kindly ask you to donate a few dollars for music you enjoy! Note that artists benefit more from donations made on Bandcamp than any purchases via platforms like iTunes or Spotify.

You are welcome to submit your music, send suggestions with free albums you have discovered, or request genres I haven’t covered in a while. For all Sound Sunday related inquiries, please contact Tina @ this domain.

Single: Amy Lynn & The Gunshow – Can’t Put My Finger On It

Genre: indie, jazz, r&b, soul, blues, experimental rock

From their homepage: “The vocal gymnastics Amy Lynn Zanetto can pull off in a mini-dress and stilettos would have Aretha Franklin, Tina Turner, and Mariah Carey on their feet by curtain call. As each of these women has done before her, Amy Lynn brings her own unique flair to the diva tradition, adding a quirky, down-to-earth humor to her front woman role that lands Amy Lynn and Gunshow in a league of their own. The Gunshow, lead by lovebirds, Amy & Alex, has a 60s pop and soul sound marked by powerhouse singers and infectious horn licks as especially fertile ground on which to showcase their combined talents. Together and apart they have played all around the world gracing the stage with Duffy, St. Vincent, Lucy Woodward, Yo La Tengo, Spoon, The Radio City Orchestra and many more.”

Can’t Put My Finger On It is a free download from Bandcamp.

EP: Hozier – Take Me To Church

Genre: alternative, acoustic, blues, folk, soul

Hozier: “Listen to any song, from any era; and you’re looking through a keyhole into the artist’s world as seen through their eyes. Art is, in it’s simplest form, the reproduction of the world around us. All artists reproduce their vision of the world, and in doing so create a document that reflects the times they live in.”

EP: Connor Roff – Awakening Demo

Genre: indie, acoustic, folk, rock, soul

From his Facebook page: “Though classically trained on the piano, Connor is a self-taught guitarist and singer/songwriter fusing folk, rock, soul, and acoustic sounds with a British twist. He’s been singing since he can remember and picked up a guitar at the age of 15, writing his first song soon after. The best he can describe his genre is “Indie Folk Rock”, drawing inspiration from many different styles and artists, citing classics.”

EP: The Colorful Quiet – I Didn’t Know EP

Genre: acoustic, folk

EP: Joshua James – Folkadelphia Session 4/6/2013

Genre: folk, blues, buegrass, country

From James’ homepage: “Strangely familiar, yet refreshingly innovative, James’ songs are devastating in their honesty, working with themes that are intermittently elating, melancholic, and transcendent. He doesn’t so much perform these songs, as he does let them possess him, allowing his voice to be throttled from a husky whisper to a full-bodied roar.”

Folkadelphia Session 4/6/2013 is a free download from Bandcamp.

EP: Right On Yukon – The National Policy

Genre: indie, folk, blues, rock, soul

At the core, Right On Yukon are a band from Halifax, Nova Scotia. On their albums and on stage, however, they collaborate with musicians from all over the place. Gage – Hometown Dreams

Genre: acoustic, r&b, soul, funky, rap, hip hop

Gage is a member of Brokenheads Arts Collective (BHAC), a collective of individuals who live and breathe art. From their homepage: “We use the term “art” loosely here, because to us, art is anything creative. (…) BHAC truly is a movement. Through our love of art, creativity, and expression we are working to further each artist’s skills in a way that is completely unique to that individual. We believe that expression is powerful, but through collaborating with additional creative minds, something beautiful will result.”

Bahwee – Flavors 2

Genre: instrumental, jazzy, lounge, lo-fi, beats, hip hop

Bahwee: “[H]ere’s Flavors 2. I was gonna do a whole blurry lights thing again for the visual but Ta-ku used it for Latenyc and there’s only so many blurry lights and triangles to go around in this world. Shouts out to My Hollow Drum, the whole HW&W squad, and Soulection Radio and much love to everybody fucking with me. I did this for y’all.”

I have a suggestion (not sure if you already do this or not). I notice you have a ‘best of apps’ listing but you don’t have a ‘best of music’ or ‘best of mp3s’ listing (at least I couldn’t find one). Might be worth exploring…..

Great minds sure think alike. :) This idea has been on my mind for a while, but I’m not sure it’s a very good idea.

The problem is that a Best Of Free Music page would have to be curated extensively every week as albums tend to be free only transiently. And how would you sort it? Many albums transgress into many different genres. Best to just go directly to Bandcamp and find what you like.

However, we could set up a category for free music downloads within our Best Of Websites page.

Harshit J

You could make a page like “Best recommended music to listen” from new music launches each week. It would be upto the readers to find and buy the songs.

Fred Folkadelphia

Thank you for including our Folkadelphia Session with Joshua James in your Sunday round-up.

We actually post new sessions for free download/stream every Sunday (and sometimes more) – feel free to post anytime.

This past Sunday we just premiered an acoustic session with Laura Stevenson: http://folkadelphia.bandcamp.com/album/laura-stevenson-folkadelphia-session-4-19-2013
