Welcome to Sound Sunday!
This edition is a balance act between the modern and the traditional. I lure you in with pop, folk, soul, and rock music and then blend over to experimental, electronic, and much harder to digest sounds. Take it as a journey into the unknown.
You are most welcome to share your thoughts and post your feedback in the comments. I also welcome album suggestions and genre requests via email [tina at makeuseof dot com]. All input appreciated!

AuxPulse – Dream Stages
Genre: experimental, electro, electronica, hardcore, techno, acid, breakbeat, psychedelic
From the album page: “Michael (Sinqlogue) and I (Rutger, DS-10 Dominator) met through our mutual obsession with a small synthesizer for the Nintendo DS (KORG DS-10). I was mainly focussing on rave music (gabber, dubstep etc.), while Michael was exploring the mystical side of electronic music (IDM, ambient, etc). We decided to work on an album that was truly a 50-50 mix of both our styles, with classic acid sounds as a binding factor.
Now, about one year later, we very proudly present our album ‘Dream Stages’. We put our hearts and souls into hand crafting all the synthesizer sounds and subsequently composing psychedelic rave music with a nostalgic touch. The whole album was made using KORG DS-10, by bouncing ‘saves’ back and forth between both our DSes.”
Dream Stages is a free download from Bandcamp.

The Garthim-Master & DJ Extend – Ghosts of Nostalgia
Genre: experimental, nerdcore, hip hop
From the album page: “Although both musicians have been creating innovative music for over 10 years, the debut album by The Garthim-Master (Canada) & DJ Extend (Germany) is their first collaborative effort designed with the subject of nostalgia as the focal point. Certainly fueled by nerd culture “Ghosts of Nostalgia” also takes a more in-depth look at what makes the brain of an 80’s child tick. Serving as a release of nostalgic subject matter this album varies from playful tones to more serious subject matter, often spoke in third-person by some of our favorite characters & their respective stories. The result is not only a fun album that they truly enjoyed creating but one that still retains elements of thought-provoking social commentary. The album as a whole is their definitive homage to creative works that have inspired them in one way or another.”
Ghosts of Nostalgia is a free download from Bandcamp.
