From the album page: “My name is Pål Moddi Knutsen, twenty-three winters as I write this. I come from an island called Senja in the far north of Norway, where I have borrowed my mother’s accordion, stolen a Russian display mandolin, and own an ocean blue guitar with two broken frets, with which I make and play music that’s always a little larger in my head than what ends up on tape. Michael Garfield – Rites of Passage: Live at Burning Man
Genre: experimental, acoustic, folktronica, singer-songwriter, guitar
From Michael’s Facebook page: “Between the personal warmth of songwriting tradition and the whirling electronics of festival culture, Michael Garfield is making music for which new words must be invented – intimate and heady, focused and raw. Not content to merely push the boundaries of acoustic fingerstyle technique, Michael weaves guitar, voice, effects, sound system, and audience into a greater instrument ecstatically playing itself. These guitar tapping etudes, cyberacoustic loopscapes, and passionate lovesongs are the performance of a world on its way: an age of reunion when dualisms fade in the glare of a love beyond opposites, and old categories no longer apply.”

Great Lake Swimmers – The Legion Sessions
Genre: alternative, folk
From the album page: “While the city of Toronto was busy battling against the wind, snow and all around miserable conditions that keep residents firmly indoors as often as possible, the Great Lake Swimmers decided to hunker down to play in one of their country’s most esteemed locations, a Royal Canadian Legion Pub. Soon dubbed “The Legion Sessions”, GLS chose the hallowed local inn-which to capture live, many of the new songs from their album Lost Channels. The group enlisted the help of gifted young director Scott Cudmore to create a raw and intimate window into the subtle power of the group’s sound. On board capturing the music resonating within these cozy surroundings was none other than Graham Walsh from the experimental electronic group Holy F**k. Proceeds from the Tip Jar will be donated to Lake Ontario Waterkeeper.”

G-Side – Live From The Parish
Genre: alternative, rock, hip hop
From their Facebook page: “Huntsville, Alabama’s G-Side are ushering in a new era of Southern rap. Two of the hardest-grinding MCs in the business, ST 2 Lettaz and Yung Clova witnessed immense struggle firsthand and have worked ceaselessly to carve out a bright future for both themselves and their city. Buttressed by the bass-heavy, space-age sounds of local production gurus Block Beattaz, G-Side are an inescapable force, a perfect mix of positivity and swagger preaching, as SPIN coined, “no-bullshit, no-excuses achievement.” Raised ablock apart from one another in impoverished Athens, the duo started rapping together in 1999 inspired by the gangsta stylings of UGK, the fierce originality of Dungeon Family, and the independent spirit of No Limit.”
Live From The Parish is a free download from Bandcamp.
Arbiter – Live Judgement, Vol. 2
