Sound Sunday is a weekly feature promoting legally free music downloads. Every edition invites you to explore various genres and artists from around the world. This week the focus is on independent and alternative folk, rock, americana, and country music.
All EPs and albums can be downloaded for free. That said, we kindly ask you to donate a few dollars for music you enjoy! Note that artists benefit more from donations made on Bandcamp than any purchases via platforms like iTunes or Spotify.
You are welcome to submit your music, send suggestions with free albums you have discovered, or request genres I haven’t covered in a while. For all Sound Sunday related inquiries, please contact Tina @ this domain.

Cat Meat – Selftitled
Genre: indie, alternative, americana, blues, folk, alt-country
From the Facebook page of this London-based band: “Musically, the rule is that anything goes as long as it still sounds like Cat Meat. Folk blues picking and traditional country licks are often underscored by battered Hüsker Dü bass lines and a cracked withering vocal. Instrumentation is often overlaid with experimental electronic noises that are there because they can be. Recordings of a dog’s heartbeat and a bowl of breakfast cereal have yet to make it onto a recording, but give it time. The songs are deceptively sweet, many of them love songs masquerading as something darker so as not to get picked on, whilst others creak and wheeze awkwardly in the corner of the party they were never really invited to.”
Cat Meat is a free download from Bandcamp.
