Assuming you haven't been living under a rock, located deep in a forest, surrounded by a very tall wall; you'll be aware that Apple has unveiled its latest smartphone. It shouldn't have come as a surprise, the Cupertino crew have been doing the exact same thing for the last seven years. Literally.

There was a big change this year: for the first time Apple announced not one but two new iPhones. The iPhone 5s is the new premium product, and is available in a range of shiny colors, including gold. The iPhone 5c, meanwhile, is the (ever so slightly) cheaper alternative for people who prefer plastic covers in a range of lurid colors. Tough choice.

As is always the case with new Apple products, reactions have been mixed. A small but vocal throng of Apple fans love the new options, declaring the new hardware the best thing since, well, the iPhone 5. And then there are the rest of the population, who are mildly interested but unlikely to open their wallets and purses.

Both groups will likely be bored of reading about the iPhone 5s and iPhone 5c, so why not watch videos exploring the new smartphones instead? What follows is a collection of 10 YouTube videos, some serious, some amusing, that together tell the full story of Apple's new hardware. These should keep you busy until the iPhone 6 arrives in 12 months' time.

The Keynote Trailer

Apple press events, especially those which see them unveiling new hardware, are always huge, and this one was no exception. Playing on the levels of expectation, this video previewing the event is pitched like a Hollywood movie trailer, with the three stars of the show, Tim Cook, Jony Ive, and Phil Schiller, taking center stage both literally and figuratively.

Apple Keynote In Full

http://youtu.be/QZhWIvHeWcs

If you missed the Apple keynote announcing the iPhone 5s and iPhone 5c, then this video was made for you. It shows the event in its entirety, with all of the new elements of both handsets discussed at length. Depending on your level of interest, you'll either find this interminably dull or amazingly engrossing.

Official iPhone 5s Trailer

http://youtu.be/QVMyrhxKfMw

This video is the official trailer for the iPhone 5s. So even if you don't have the will to watch the whole keynote event you can still discover the main elements of the new hardware. The main feature discussed here is the Touch ID fingerprint sensor, by far the biggest innovation in this iteration of the iPhone.

Official iPhone 5c Trailer

http://youtu.be/C8Tvn5DN1Vc

This video is the official trailer for the iPhone 5c. So even if you don't have the will to watch the whole keynote event you can still discover the main elements of the new hardware. This video explores the cheaper of the new iPhones, going some way to explaining the differences between this and the 5s, while detailing the new plastic case.

Instant Analysis

Chris Pirillo, who appears in our list of unmissable technology channels on YouTube and our list of techies you should follow on Google+, live-streamed his thoughts on the iPhone 5s and iPhone 5c announcement. It's worth watching to see someone who truly knows the subject matter reacting instantly to the updates.

iPhone 5s & iPhone 5c Unveiling Spoof [NSFW]

http://youtu.be/GpH4hrV38J0

This video is a NSFW comedy spoof lightly mocking the iPhone 5s and iPhone 5c. You get the distinct feeling the guy behind it really isn't a fan of Apple, with the barbed comments about the lack of innovation and copying the ideas of other handset manufacturers revealing this truth.

iPhone 5s Promo Spoof

http://youtu.be/1sIWez9HAbA

The same themes from the last video persist through to this one, which mostly deals with the iPhone 5s. Pitched as though it were the real announcement video (as seen above) the tone is definitely mocking. Unfortunately the last line, "It's plastic, so now everyone can afford an iPhone... even the peasants," turned out to be less than accurate.

iPhone 5c Promo Spoof

http://youtu.be/kAGtk2x4BSQ

This is another spoof mimicking the official Apple style of hardware unveilings. This one deals primarily with the iPhone 5c, though iOS 7 also gets a mention. The mocking of Siri is particularly amusing, as is the constant defending of the choice of plastic over glass and aluminum.

iPhone Fans Get Pwned

http://youtu.be/oprUI6nupfc

This video is proof, if proof were needed, that not all Apple fans are intelligent and insightful. I'm sure most are both of these things, but the ones caught out by Jimmy Kimmel on the day of the iPhone 5s and iPhone 5c unveiling are definitely neither. The girl who licks the iPad mini should probably disinfect her tongue.

Future iPhone Concept

http://youtu.be/lzsBwnv_dAg

We close with a video that first appeared on YouTube two years ago when people were imagining what Apple had in store for the iPhone 5. These are innovations that someone, somewhere imagines would be cool on a future iPhone, but sadly Apple seems happy delivering the same hardware year after year. Perhaps these innovations will appear on the iPhone 16, due out in 2033 or so.

Conclusions

Hopefully that's enough iPhone video goodness for you for the time being. Because I'm personally ready to leave this subject well alone until we meet in the same place at the same time next year. Barring the inevitable reviews and giveaways coming to MakeUseOf soon, which will be essential reading, naturally.

Feel free to use this opportunity to tell us what you think of the new iPhones. Are you going to buy an iPhone 5s or an iPhone 5c? Or are you happy to skip this incremental hardware update and wait until the iPhone 6 arrives in 2014? Please let us know your thoughts in the comments section below.
