However, there are some awesome Google Chrome extensions to fix these common annoyances once and for all. Read More to make it just right for you. Let’s look at some URL tricks to get more out of the service.

1. Link to Any Part of a Video

Typically, when you copy a link to a YouTube video, it starts from the beginning. If you want to show someone just a bit of a video or skip a lengthy intro, you can append a time stamp to the URL to start it at that time.

You can do this in a couple of ways. By manually adding &t=YmXXs to the end of a video URL, you’ll set it to start that many minutes/seconds into the video. You can omit minutes, or use only seconds, such as 90s for a minute and a half. So, this video:

youtube.com/watch?v=7RWI3-8N_-Y

Can be shared 90 seconds in using this URL:

youtube.com/watch?v=7RWI3-8N_-Y&t=1m30s

If you don’t want to use the manual method, pause the video at the time you’d like to share it at, then right-click and choose Copy video URL at current time.

2. Loop a Video Infinitely

This will open the video at YouTubeRepeater.com, which will loop the video for you. So, change this URL:

To this to loop it:

youtuberepeater.com/watch?v=oeb5LdAyLC8

You can tweak the playback using the options below the video if you want to start or end at different points.

3. Bypass Age Restrictions

YouTube has age restrictions on certain videos Should YouTube Music Videos Have Age Ratings? Should YouTube Music Videos Have Age Ratings? Rihanna, Robin Thicke, and Miley Cyrus. Take a YouTube URL for a restricted video like this:

youtube.com/watch?v=wvZ6nB3cl1w

Delete the watch? and replace the = with another / to create a URL that looks like this:

youtube.com/v/wvZ6nB3cl1w

This will play the video in full screen mode and let you watch it without signing in. You can try this to access region-locked content How to Easily Bypass YouTube's Regional Filter How to Easily Bypass YouTube's Regional Filter Some YouTube videos are restricted by location. Luckily, with a few tricks you can unblock YouTube videos not available in your country to what any content you want to, regardless of your location. Read More , as well.

4. Skip a Certain Amount of the Intro

Similar to the trick that lets you pick the start time, you can also choose to skip a certain amount of seconds at the start of the video. You can’t specify minutes with this one, so use 90 (seconds) for a minute and a half. So, to skip the first 30 seconds of this video:

youtube.com/watch?v=1F_bG-uJMns

Add start=30 to the URL and get this:

youtube.com/watch?v=1F_bG-uJMns&start=90

This is similar to the timing one, but a bit faster to type and doesn’t require you to remember a certain time stamp.

5. Download YouTube Videos

If you’d like to download a copy of a YouTube video for your own records, there are a couple of URL shortcuts that easily let you do that.

Before the youtube.com in the URL, type either pwn or kick to jump to services that will let you download those videos in a variety of formats. So, this URL:

youtube.com/watch?v=kFIsoq63lwo

Can be downloaded by changing the URL to either of these:

pwnyoutube.com/watch?v=kFIsoq63lwo
kickyoutube.com/watch?v=kFIsoq63lwo

I just created a simple bookmarklet to accomplish trick #3—Bypass Age Restrictions—with a single click.

In Google Chrome, open Bookmarks=>Bookmark Manager.
Ckick on 'Bookmarks Bar', then Right-click on 'Bookmarks Bar' and select 'Add Page'.
In the 'Name' field, type or paste the name you want to give it, for example—Youtube Bypass Age Restrictions, or whatever you want.
In the 'URL' field, copy and paste:

    javascript:(function(){;var%20url%3Dwindow.location.href%3Bvar%20newurl%3Durl.replace(%22watch%3Fv%3D%22%2C%22v%2F%22)%3Bwindow.location.assign(newurl)%3B;})()

You will now have a bookmarklet with whatever name you gave it. You can drag it into a new position if you want.

To use the bookmarklet, visit the restricted Youtube page, like the one in the example—https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wvZ6nB3cl1w, and click the bookmarklet once and you should now be able to play the video.

but not the one I want to use, which I edited for the website:

    https://www.youtube.com/watch?tv=vruVR6ve8QY

I tried trick#9, but it did not work, I have also tried dropbox, vimeo, and flickr. I have asked this question on Stack Overflow, and Yahoo answers, but have not gotten a solution.

The video clip I prefer, an mp4, works greats locally on VS and IIS.

    The website, in progress:

Not sure if it's an actual hack, but if you add "listento" in front of "youtube" (listentoyoutube), you'll be able to download the soundtrack from the movie = free songs.

I've been searching for days now in order to discover a simple trick to be able to download youtube videos .
There are lots them including software programms , plugins for firefox , many scripts etc.. Well most of them are ok at doing what they really do .

But I will mention a trick that it's the easiest that I've found. This way includes using http://www.tubeleecher.com.

Ok here are the steps involved

    1) go to http://www.tubeleecher.com
    2) get the youtube link of the video you want to download
    3) paste it on tubeleecher page
    4) save the video and you're done

You can watch the video you downloaded with a flash player.
    get it here http://download.cnet.com/FLV-Player/3000-13632_4-10467081.html

There is also a youtube video explaining the whole procedure of getting video from youtube with the method described above.

When copyright material is uploaded to YT, it is often "flipped" to confuse the automatic copyright filters. "&flip=1" corrects for that so text & such doesn't appear backwards."
    ---------------

    IDIOT!

&flip=1 does not work anymore, and even if it did, copyrighted works can be edited to be a little faster/slower then the normal speed in order to avoid the auto detect service. I have never seen it to be flipped just to avoid it.

If you're running Linux, then just install the program "youtube-dl"

For ubuntu, simply run "sudo aptitude install youtube-dl"

And you'll be able to download YouTube videos from the command line!

    $ youtube-dl -b "http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=kL6DlOQIwaY" -o file.mp4

    And you'll have the video!

    • mrdeleted
      October 26, 2009 at 10:29 am

It can't be done. I have already said so in the comments above. If you post a link, it will have to be typed into the browser later, so it is not even effective to use as a marketing method. Unless you mass spam a lot of videos.

(And for that you would need a software like tubetoolbox or similar. I don't want you to even try that, cause I get enough spam on my videos!)

Anyway, you can post a simple "example[.]com" post on videos though and get around the YouTube filters.

I am a Partner, so I have a few extra tools that others do not get.

While &fmt=22 does allow for a higher resolution video, it only works if there's an option to view the video in HD (such as when there's an HD button in the video). Otherwise, it doesn't give you any better quality on regular videos. The &fmt=18 works for all videos. It may not give a better video throughput (depending on the bit-rate at which it was uploaded), but the audio quality is almost always better than average.

"delete"? the new youtube pages are a little different then the old ones, so you can go through the system and remove whatever you want... But you may have to upgrade your profile to the new one if you have not done so yet...

I am a YouTube Partner, but the only difference my profile has to yours would by the banner at top...

First, the images you see to the right of the video are there from Ning.com's service, and 2nd, you can make any playlist, then go to the "My players" page and make any style player you choose, including one that has a set of images next to them, not that one looks a little different then the one I have on AmishChurch.com's website.

One question - answer touched on with the http://quietube.com/ suggestion where I want to be able to supply a URL link to the YouTube video but with everything else stripped away, ie. only the video and controls and no branding.

    I changed the Mrdeleted website:

My latest video now autoplays there in large screen! Change any youtube URLs from "youtube.com" to "mrdeleted.com" to autoplay/loop them. Or if you have the video ID, just enter it on the site and play it from my website. This last part is from a special code that I made myself. I am pretty proud of this, as I am not a coder, but know a little bit oh PHP and HTML so I messed with it till I got it to work.

I can't speak for the Windows and Mac viewers out there, but Firefox under Linux uses the system /tmp folder to store big files like videos. Just look for the most recent file called "FlashXXXX", where XXXX is some random gobbledegook. It's a .flv file, so you can just play it, copy it and rename it, etc. No external software or site needed, or even trawling through about:cache.

If you use chrome, the following block, saved as a bookmark, will automatically DL a YouTube Video as a FLV file:

    javascript:window.location.href = 'http://youtube.com/get_video?video_id=' + swfArgs['video_id'] + "&l=" + swfArgs['l'] + "&sk=" + swfArgs['sk'] + '&fmt_map' + swfArgs['fmt_map'] + '&t=' + swfArgs['t'];

for downloading youtube url, a pythin script exists -- "youtube-dl". it is available as a downloadable package in linux distros under the same name. you can "yum install" or "apt-get install" it. it will work under cygwin also. i have been using for over 3 months now.

Thanks, for those kickin' YouTube tricks!

Are you aware that someone is selling the equivalent to Trick #10 for cash via email? I instantly knew it wasn't necessary to get any special widget to do this. But, I didn't know HOW!

i have one, that's relatively simple and safe to use. it's a script that enables you to download youtube videos without any plugins or external websites by downloading the original mp4 video file from the server. simply add javascript:if(document.location.href.match(/http:\/\/[a-zA-Z\.]*youtube\.com\/watch/)){document.location.href='http://www.youtube.com/get_video?fmt=18&video_id='+swfArgs['video_id']+'&t='+swfArgs['t']} to your browser bookmarks (you might have to make a random bookmark first, then change the address). whenever you watch a video on youtube.com that you would like to save, simply click that link. for HQ use ?fmt=18 and for HD use ?fmt=22 in the script.

    enjoy!

Here is one very useful site you could add tothis list: Just add NSFW in front of "protected" youtube video url to see videos that may contain content that is inappropriate for some users without loggin in or having youtube account.

    Original:
    http://www.youtube.com/verify_age?&next_url=/watch%3Fv%3DAh70Y-6LJ40

    Bypass login or signup:
    http://www.NSFWyoutube.com/verify_age?&next_url=/watch%3Fv%3DAh70Y-6LJ40

If you use Safari, the easiest way to download youtube videos is to do the following:

    1. Go to the youtube video of your choice on youtube.com
    2. Click on 'Window' in the menu, and select 'Activity'
    3. Under the youtube address, which will be recognisable by its name, double click on the address with the largest file listed (it should be the only one in the megabytes, but the size varies depending on length of video)
    4. A new window should open and, after a few seconds, the video should begin to download to your computer

Note: You may need to use a program to convert the file into a watchable movie file. My computer used to not recognise the file at all until converted, but for some reason it's recently started downloading them as flash video files (.flv).

    • Alan Gresley
      April 21, 2009 at 9:08 am

If the computer does not recognize the file type, right click on it and select Properties and after the name, append .flv. Like this.

      videoname

      videoname.flv

and then press ok. Now they will work in a flash player and your computer will recognize them.

use VLC player it will play all most every video file format even not recognize once. It is free. and uses less cpu.
and can play HD in low machine.

most of your tips make it less useful rather than more. Lower quality loads faster, autoplaying makes it annoying and not letting people explore ever videos just makes you lame.

Not at all, Mike. I work in K12 education and quite a bit with Boy Scouts. Disabling "related videos" is a big help for videos we embed.

I think you have an idea that YT should only be used for "browsing" and that other users use it the same way you do. Not true. Many are using it as a blog friendly hosting platform for specific embedded content, or to share content within a specific group - not necessarily of public interest or consumption.

That said, you can still visit YouTube directly and watch the video - and get your search box, lower quality and related videos - so no harm done to someone like you who surfs. But I don't want related videos to pop up on an embedded video from our Agriculture Dept on "sexing chicks" that gets embedded on a HS webpage. And yes, this is a real example - it means to separate out the hens from the roosters early on.

    April 18, 2009 at 7:44 pm

Not really a trick but if you regularly post youtube vids to your weblog it would we worthwhile to cache the thumbs for performance reasons like e.g. here: http://vid.leau.net. there would no be any calls to youtube or google video.

    • Dan
      January 4, 2010 at 10:10 am

When copyright material is uploaded to YT, it is often "flipped" to confuse the automatic copyright filters. "&flip=1" corrects for that so text & such doesn't appear backwards.
