I love statistics and analytics. No, I don’t mean statistical analyses and finding what the mean and standard deviation of things are, I mean seeing statistics and analytics of things I actually use, such as websites and social networks. In the social network department, the most interesting one is definitely Twitter. Believe it or not, I’m fairly new on Twitter, and using it seems like a constant process of learning from what has already been done.

As Yaara announced last week, NASA has recently launched it’s first Facebook app called Space Race Blastoff. Usually I’m not really into Facebook apps – they waste way too much time and I end up falling behind in my work. What I found with Space Race Blastoff however was that it wasn’t a waste of time at all. It’s a brilliant way to clear your mind, and it’s really fun to go head-to-head with other real players on Facebook.

You may not have heard of the term Vaguebooking, but I can guarantee you will have seen at least one example of it in action. Certainly if you’re active on Facebook, Twitter, Google+, or any one of the numerous other social networks open to us all. In fact, you probably see it on a daily basis. If you have those kinds of virtual friends. There was a time when people kept diaries in order to express their innermost thoughts and feelings.

Facebook have been under pressure in recent years from all angles to make privacy options simpler and quick to change. They’ve actually done quite well at this, considering how complicated the Facebook privacy system is overall. However, for those of us who understand the privacy controls well, there are a number of things Facebook could implement to improve the effect of privacy controls.

In the last few months, Twitter has become my favorite social networking hangout, mainly because I find it less time consuming than Facebook and Tumblr, and I can certainly update it quicker than I can any of my typically abandoned blog sites. Most of last year I have been using YoruFukurou and a few iPhone apps as my Twitter clients, but now I’m giving the multi-platform TweetDeck a try again.

A few years ago, I stumbled upon Twournal which can put your latest 3,200 tweets into a PDF or paperback book. When you see your Twitter content archived in one document, you gain a better appreciation of what it means to be a published author. Twournal allows you to create, buy and sell books printed from your tweets. Registering on the site and creating your first book is nearly as easy as signing in and allowing Twournal to access your Twitter timeline

In mid-2011, Twitter announced its photo sharing feature. It was major news because it put Twitter at loggerheads with the existing third-party Twitter photo sharing services like TwitPic , yfrog, and Instagram. But we users weren’t really bothered about the behind the scenes bad blood for it gave us a more convenient way of sharing photos from within Twitter itself.

If you’re a Facebook user, you’ve probably recently started to use the Facebook timeline on your user page. You’ve probably also noticed changes such as the ticker feed and new behaviours of open graph applications like Spotify. Well, Facebook has very recently opened up their timeline applications so that many more applications can do the things Spotify can do, such as sending data to your timeline, news feed and ticker.

But there is one thing about Facebook that even the most zealous critic can’t ignore – it makes people more creative. What do I mean by that? Well, can you imagine yourself designing something like your Timeline page just right before Facebook came along?
