I hate to admit it but I’m a little addicted to Angry Birds. I know many people hate the game in all its different iterations – it’s for casual gamers, it sucks, it’s pointless – but I just can’t get enough. I know why this is so, having explored the reasons Angry Birds is so addictive in a previous article, but that hasn’t helped. Never mind. There are worse things to be addicted to.

I have ripped on Apple quite a bit here on MakeUseOf in recent weeks. Partly because a company of that size and stature deserves to get taken down a peg or two from time to time, partly to counter the weight of Apple fanboys on the Web, and partly because, well, it’s fun, quite frankly. However, in the spirit of fairness there are other tech giants ripe for a little gentle ribbing.

A lot of people really don’t like Steve Ballmer. Perhaps because he’s Mr. Microsoft, or because he was (for many years) Bill Gates’ lickspittle underling. Whatever the reason, he’s a figure of fun in a way neither Gates, or his sparring partner Steve Jobs, has ever been. And there are plenty of videos demonstrating why Steve Ballmer is ripe for being laughed at, five of which are embedded below for your pleasure.

If you’re an Apple fanboy or fangirl then Apple can do no wrong. And their commercials are perfect slices of marketing genius that border on being works of art. The rest of us find most of them a little pretentious, to say the least. From the PC vs. Mac and iPod ads right through to the MacBook Air and Siri ads, all Apple commercials have a particular look and feel to them.

Sometimes on social sharing sites and social networks, there are deviants – the “rebels” who set out just to make your life a little more miserable. Granted, it’s not so much that they are bad folks (I’m sure that in real life they volunteer at soup kitchens and work with after school programs), but when they provide or comment on links to articles, their dark side comes out.

As you may know, MakeUseOf isn’t staffed by robots that churn out articles daily through an automatic system. All of us have our own methods of getting down to the writing. Since I’m not a full-time freelance writer, it takes me a little extra oompah to get myself started. With that in mind (and based on what I’m doing right now), I figured I’d give you a little insight into what I’m doing. Basically, here’s how I procrastinate.

I don’t have any love for Apple. I don’t have any hate either. In fact, I find it odd that anyone would express such strong emotions, whether positive or negative, for a technology company. Or any company for that matter, whatever business it happens to be in. This means that while I don’t hate Apple, I can’t abide Apple fanboys. Thankfully I’m not alone.

Not long ago, we all enjoyed James’s 5 reasons it’s better to date a geek. While he made some good points, James made the error of assuming that geek girls are so rare, they’re virtually non-existent. This is the way he put it: “Unfortunately, data on these rare creatures is still quite scarce, so we will not discuss them today.” Well, I am here to tell you that geek girls do exist, and they’re actually more common than most people think.

All good things must be mocked, and the latest epic fantasy RPG from Bethesda is no different. Today we’ve got a selection of parodies and in-game videos that will hopefully amuse, inspire and tickle you in the right places. For many who have played the game on a console (myself included) the PC version is beginning to look better and better thanks to all the fun of modding and console commands.

The Super Bowl is pretty much the one and only time advertisers can guarantee almost everybody (in the U.S. at least) is avidly watching the television. Which is why the cream of their commercial efforts get saved until the annual event. And with the cost of advertising on TV during the Super Bowl, the ads have to live on in people’s minds in order to warrant the considerable expense
