Is DVD dead? Amazon doesn’t think so. In an attempt to bring DVDs back into awareness, Amazon has launched a new store, dedicated solely to DVD releases that have never been released for DVD before. The store, with the suitable name of “Never Before On DVD”, includes over 2000 movie and TV titles that were never released on DVD before now.

Google has updated its self-titled iOS search app to version 2.0, bringing with it a new simpler interface, improved image search and general speed and usability enhancements. The news follows the big Google+ iOS app redesign which landed earlier this month.
In addition to a cleaner UI, Google has sped up the search auto-completion which now instantly suggests keywords for every letter you type. Search results also load faster and appear differently, popping up in what Google calls a “slide-in panel” which is now toggled with a horizontal swipe gesture.

Rovio has taken its hugely popular pig-popping game to the next social level by launching Angry Birds Friends on Facebook. Players can now compete against their Facebook friends in weekly tournaments, earning new trophies and power-ups as they play.
The game launches with four new levels already available, with more due to be added on a weekly basis. Competitions run from Monday to Sunday and players with the highest scores can earn gold, silver and bronze trophies which are saved to their accounts forever.

Generally, a social network is a place to share status updates, locations, photos and general information about what is going on with your life. GitHub, one of the leading open-source code repository websites, has recently released a new native application for Windows, called (unsurprisingly) GitHub for Windows. The new GitHub application is free for all, and allows convenient interaction with GitHub’s features with no need for a browser. You can use it to browse code commits, create new ones, roll back changes, and more. The application looks sharp, and matches the new Windows 8 Metro look.

Streaming music service Spotify is now available in Australia and New Zealand after launching on Tuesday morning, taking the total number of supported countries to 15. As is the case in other territories, there are three tiers of membership available: Free, Unlimited and Premium.

Google has been paying more attention to its search feature lately, and after launching the Knowledge Graph last week, it’s now also improving search in Gmail as well. We all know that Google’s auto-complete feature is one smart cookie, and now we can enjoy this same functionality in Gmail, with suggestions based on the actual content of our email.

A new study from Paragon Software suggests that most people do not properly protect the data found on old hard drives and a smaller number of people fail to backup data to a safe location.
Paragon polled users of the company’s Hard Disk Manager to gain insight into their habits. About half of the respondents reported that they did not wipe data from old hard drives before discarding them or, if they did, only re-formatted the disk. Old drives that are discarded in this manner could become a privacy issue if they are recovered by another person.
