Backing up your website or blog can be an expensive and arduous task, requiring a variety of plugins, or additional plans from your hosting provider – but it needn’t be really. If you have SSH access to your website host (generally you would need at least a virtual private server for this), then it’s easy to backup, restore and migrate your entire website with only a few commands.

A while ago I talked about the benefits of installing the W3TC plugin on your Wordpress blog in order to speed it up with various caching, but some readers were understandably a little wary about the plugin without some sort of tutorial to help them. Luckily, the defaults will work well for 90% of us. Follow the guide, and even with some basic settings you’re going to see some form of speed improvement.

More and more people who access the Internet are doing so from an iPad or another tablet. So if you have an online presence, it would be a good idea to adjust the interface of your site to be tablet friendly. Automattic has realized this and have added a feature that will optimize its 18 million blogs for tablet viewing.

Nobody would argue that WordPress is one of the most widely used blogging platforms today. But surprisingly, not many people aware that there are actually two kinds of WordPresses out there: the dot-com and the dot-org version. To narrow the gap between these two versions, the folks at WordPress released Jetpack, a set of cool tools that previously available only for the dot-com version.
