Amidst performance issues coming to light, Microsoft has now acknowledged that the Xbox Series X may not be living up to its "world's most powerful console" accolade.

Microsoft Admits to Series X Performance Problems

In a statement to The Verge, a Microsoft spokesperson has stated that the company is aware of the performance problems that the new Xbox Series X is experiencing. In particular when comparing the Series X to the PS5.

The next-gen console has previously been lauded as the most powerful console on the planet. This boast came straight from the Microsoft camp itself, so it is perhaps slightly embarrassing that the console actually...isn't.

A Rocky Launch for Xbox Series X

Despite being lauded as the most successful console launch ever for Microsoft, the release of the Xbox Series X hasn't been without problems.

There are major shortages of Series X stock until April 2021, which means Microsoft won't be able to meet demand. If gamers have to wait that long, it does beg the question, will they get tired of waiting and jump ship to another console?

Now we also have evidence that the Xbox Series X doesn't always live up to its powerful specs. This means that fans who have yet to buy one of the sought-after consoles may have second thoughts.

Is PS5 More Powerful Than Series X?

Microsoft's admission comes on the back of a YouTube video by Digital Foundry, which appears to show that the PS5 is actually more powerful than the Series X. At least, it is when at a higher frame rate of 120fps (frames per second).

Digital Foundry analyses device performance, so it can be considered an authority on when consoles aren't performing as they should.

Here, the commentators discuss the performance of each console when running Devil May Cry 5 SE on the PlayStation 5 and Series X consoles respectively.

The video appears to show that the PS5 hits that crucial 120fps, or gets closer to it, more often than the Series X manages to do so.

The commentators conclude that it could be down to a software issue, which is then inhibiting the performance of the Xbox Series X when it comes to delivering higher frame rates.

Can Microsoft Fix Series X Performance Problems?

From the statement issued to The Verge, we know that Microsoft is already in talks with third-party game developers to try and resolve the problems.

Unfortunately, you just need to hang tight while developers work with Microsoft on any solutions, which will likely come in the form of future software or game updates. Or perhaps you could just forget Xbox and buy a Switch instead.
