I have a serious app addiction and Photogram is easily one of my most favorite apps. It’s simple to use, people love getting them and the best thing is the art: unique, stylish, fun and lots of options, even if you choose not to buy extra themes.
thanks for the input
This page helped me A TON when doing an article on Iphone apps for college freshman. Thanks a bunch Makeuseof! Keep up the fantastic work. I love you’re guides. http://www.thecampuscompanion.com/2011/08/28/free-iphone-apps-every-college-freshman-should-be-downloading/
glad you found it useful
You’re in college and you can’t differentiate between your and you’re?
Your means that which is yours.
You’re means you are.
<3
I am thoroughly embarrassed, and the grammar mistake has been corrected. Thanks.
Please don’t embarrassed, makes me sick someone would make you feel that way over spelling. F em and dont let someone online make you feel bad! Ugh! Not to sound harsh but I wish ppl like that would accidentally get hit by a bus
*people
Wow, get a life and stop worrying about peoples grammar. Geez
people’s
Where is the ignore grammar police app? Way to try and make YOURself sound smart champ!
Ugh I know. I can’t stand when people can’t even say ‘you’re and your’ right. Usually they can’t get ‘their there’s right either ha.
“Lighten up Francis”
I wish we were all as perfekt as u!
How about Whistle, Wordweb, Dictionary, and Adobe Ideas?
Great sharing. Keep it up buddy
Can you send this out as a pdf? It’s good.
I am afraid for now the page only available in this format. turning it into PFD will require some time and we are a bit overloaded at the moment.
Coincidentally you can just print the page and then scan it with JotNot, and badabingbadaboom, you have a PDF that you can email to yourself.
Sorry, but soundtracking sucks. When I feel like sharing my musical moods, I want my friends to feel it. Not just 30 itunes seconds of it. Witch is why my recommendation is ShareMusic a simple but effective app that will post Youtube results for the song and artist.
Pandora isn’t available in th UK
Jango is the best equivalent I have found that works in the uk!
What about Spotify or Grooveshark. I think both of them offer iPhone apps.
Grooveshark is only available on jailbroken phones
I find it super irritating that Dragon Go or Dragon Dictation is not available in the NZ App store – I have emailed Dragon asking if they could sell it to me directly, but have had absolutely no response!
Company that produces Dragon is very screwed up. Besides that every year for the last 12 years they come out with a new version and claim its 20% better than last years version. By now it should be about 500 times better than the original, yes? Do the math. I can’t anymore.
Solitaire is fine but “250+ Solitaires Free” is better, you get 250+ card games
http://itunes.apple.com/app/250-solitaires-free/id444538941?mt=8
MyWeather is a great weather app for iPhone
Great List! I think you missed plants vs zombies though! Plants vs Zombies is a cool game that is kinda like Turret Defence.. You can read a blog about it and get it for free at http://www.plantsvszombiesfree.net
I have a lot of fun with these 3 apps
Save the Titanic
Subway Surfers
and
Free Flow.
I found these games at
http://www.appmartfree.com – take a look
nice list. thank you
this page help out alot…
Very cool indeed, learnt a lot here thanks….
iPhone 4S is a real, sleek, sexy babe but far too expensive to even help Apple cut even in India. It’s a monstrous sum by any stretch. I’m biding time.
Hi. Camera+ deserve a mention. One of the best photo app around.
Nice list but where is Flipboard ?
You seem to have plenty of free note-taking apps already, but I’d also add Springpad. It’s a lot like Evernote, which I tired for a while and also found to be very good, but Springpad works better for me
I second Springpad, I have used it and liked it.
PORNO
hi WhatsApp Messenger now it’s free
not free anymore….$.99
Very useful! Thanks for this!
Jango (music streaming), Shazaam (Music identifier), BBC, Tune-in radio are my favourites and they’re all free.
thanks for the input
Under navigation, you should have TomTom.. its the best SatNav on phone.
Thx, really nice list!
Thank your for a great list.
It seems that Stanza has been fixed for iOS5.x but that folks with prior iOS to 5 say that the fixed version is broken on iOS4.x so don’t update if you haven’t upgraded the iOS. Bluefire reader is an adequate, if not compete, alternative to Stanza.
For PDF, PDF Reader is a bit more than a reader. It comes in Lite and Pro versions
Angry Birds!!! Where is it?? This guy need to buy an iPhone…
I am new to the iDevices. I am very frustrated that a basic function seems to be a closely guarded government secret — that is 1) how do you temporarily delete an app to make room on an iDevice and 2) how do you permanently delete an app that really sucks and you never want to see it again?
The iDevice storage is limited, and I am always up to trying new things. But even Apple couldn’t, or wouldn’t, be straightforward with the delete question.
Usvet,
the best place to ask questions or receive advice is MakeUseOf Answers. Please post your question there if you still need help temporarily removing apps from your iDevice.
Great article, thanks for sharing. By the way, check this funny app -joke joke teller (http://itunes.apple.com/en/app/jokes-jose-joke-teller-toucan/id490196809?mt=8)
Thanks for sharing. I also like jose joke teller.
Oh! Jose joke teller! It is bes I say.
but how to install to the iphone I don’t know how to install them
via iTunes.
clicking on the links on this page should take directly to the app page on iTunes
Great list, thanks for the sharing.
ooo
I prefer Voxer than WhatsApp.
Also, how come 2Do is not in this list? It’s the best productivity app.
Many of these apps are only available from the USA iTunes store
yep, but they can be downloaded easily from uoutside US a s well.
Aibek
Awesome.
gorgeous
I really like Nubi Do for to-do lists. You can organise items into categories, tag them, place them in contexts, add notes, due dates and alarms, have recurring reminders, and so on. Really very good.
Awesome, great list of must have apps for iPhone users.
you should add kingdoms at war and tiny tower to games.
wow, what a rich list of apps. mind blowing. I will go through the Reading Portion.
try this much more help ful and must have apps..screwups of all time http://itpromate.com/2011/05/16-free-must-have-ipad-apps-screw-ups-of-all-time/
Good to know. The video capabilities interest me most. I’m going to pick up a iPhone 4s next week. I can’t wait for the 5.
Studying in New York City? Here’s a website that posts the best iPhone Apps for NYC Students. Check it out!
https://files.nyu.edu/mse268/public/index.html
thanks for the link
I have a great addition to the Utilities list, a free app called AppAlerts. It push notifies you when a new iPhone app is released matching your specific keywords. Just add keywords for the type of apps you’re interested in and you’ll be notified as soon as a new app is released.
thanks, we’ll check it out
I stumbled on TapNotify (http://itunes.apple.com/us/app/tap-notify/id519524126?mt=8) and have found this free app to be really handy. The gist is it makes it a one tap thing to send your location by text or email along with a pre-set message (buttons you can customize). Stuff like “I just landed.” or “I’ve arrived safely”. My teenager has it on her phone now – one less excuse for not letting me know she’s safely arrived.
ohh if i can get the iphone rite know like 2moro at the morning like at how do u call it at 10:30 and i got the money if im not here then just leave it on floor like under the 2 chairs the whites one but the onw that is in the left alrite bro good bye
Wicked. http://www.apptomized.com/ has a feed the best apps for android
This list is mediocre at best… I was hoping to find some apps that I don’t already have.
Hey Chris,
If you come across some iPad apps that are excellent per your definition, we would love to hear about them! Maybe we simply have not discovered them, yet.
Wow, when I checked I found out i have most of the apps listed here already!
Awesome, Tim! Did you discover any new ones at all? Or are we missing an app you would add to the list?
Yeah it is called notebility. There is also another good one for it called puffin. Like me when I go to china a lot I have no VPN and with this browser I can still use Facebook etc. it also really fast browsing. I tried using 2G and it was as fast as a wifi!
Thanks Tim! I have added those to our list of apps to review.
That means you are doing it right.
Gotta recommend “AppZappPush”.. The best “App Discovery” app I have come across.. Powerful search with filters and allows you to be notified when Apps you want go on sale (or free)… Dont get “AppZapp”… Get their other app “AppZappPush”.. It comes with free push notifications instead of having the option to buy it… Same app otherwise as far as I can tell.
Did you see Memaker App?
With Memaker you can create your memes on your iPhone/iPod/iPad!
It’s awesome
Download Now!
http://itunes.apple.com/us/app/memaker-app/id525945452?mt=8
Thank you for sharing. I have added it to our list of apps to review.
Check out Zello PTT walkie talkie. Hands down, the best Push to Talk app. IMO, way better than Voxer, Heytell, TikL. Easy to install and use. Runs cross platform on IPhone, IPod, Android, Blackberry AND PCs. Uses little memory and reliable. Runs 3G and Wi-Fi. Instant talk, real-time. Message history, push notifications, delete acct function, world wide access, exceptional sound quality, no ads, no spam, and best of all ….Free.
But the most fun feature is the channel feature which allows anybody to create their own personal chat channel (private or public), supports up to 100 subscribers at a time to chat on the channel, unlimited subscribers. So it’s great for small groups or big organizations, people with common interests or just general chats with people from all over the world. Check out the Zello website. It’s been on Android a few years, but just came out on IPhone March 31, 2012, and is already the #1 or 2 social app in Spain, Argentina, Mexico, Uruguay, Lebanon, Brazil, Israel. Think Twitter but with voice, that’s kinda what it’s like. Faster than texting.
http://zello.com/app.htm
https://www.facebook.com/ZelloMe
I recommend PowerCam and Panorama,as they are my favorite camera apps. Panoramic photo is any wide-angle view (from 90 to 360 degree) or representation of a physical space. Seeing panoramic photo, people will feel like standing in front of the magnificent view. Panorama available in my iPhone makes taking panoramic photos simple.
Thank you for sharing.
Surprised to not see Spotify in the audio apps.
Snapseed is an excellent app for editing photographs.
Add TripList to your travel section, it is a must have app for people on the go.
Multiplayer word game missed in the above list – Unscramble with Buddies
http://itunes.apple.com/app/unscramble-with-buddies/id517798955?mt=8

Minii,
If you have a specific question, please ask it here on MakeUseOf Answers.
We have also written an iPhone Guide that you may want to check out to learn more about your iPhone.
I wonder if anyone knows of an app that provides a calendar that you can link documents into – so that I can click on the calendar link and it will open to a particular document or even better to a particular part of a document? Thanks.
Hi Leanne,
Nothing comes to mind immediately. But perhaps you can put this question to our wider community at MakeUseOf Answers [http://www.makeuseof.com/answers/]
No mention of the app Wikinvest in the Finance section? It’s a great app and should be listed, in my opinion…
Why Makeuseof’s iphone app is not listed here -
http://www.makeuseof.com/tag/introducing-free-iphone-app/
Susandeep, it is the “mother” app
and here we have focused on the others that are out there.
IS THERE A WAY ON AN IPHONE TO PROTECT YOUR NOTES BY INTRODUCING A PASSWORD PRIOR TO ACCESS.OBVIOUSLY IF ONE IS STORING VALUABLE INFO IN YOUR NOTES APP ANYONE CAN JUST TAP IN TO SAME IF THEY GET THEIR HANDS ON YOUR DEVICE
Alan,
This is a question best asked on MakeUseOf Answers.
Before you head over and copy&paste your question, please don’t!!! Questions submitted in all CAPS will be deleted as typing in all CAPS is considered rude behavior in web etiquette. Please use proper use of upper/lower case spelling. Thank you.
Can you put up more game apps please because I’ve got all these?
Wifi finder apparently found wifi my iphone couldn’t. I’m thankful
Great post! Discovered lots of cool new apps.
Thanks so much for the suggestions! Will try a few of these.

Is live video broadcasting = Photography ?
I would like to send you guys to download the latest Flixwagon app…. (http://itunes.apple.com/us/app/flixwagon+/id457555789?mt=8)
it’s main purpose is live video broadcasting, but you can do lots of related stuff with it:
- Post the live broadcast to facebook, twitter link
- Email the broadcast directly to someone (either a few seconds after the broadcaster started or after you are done)
- Draw(!) on top of the live video
- Broadcast a web page, or an image as part of your video broadcast
- You can also look for live and VOD broadcasts on a Map, and directly navigate there with some navigators.
Thanks Roi,
We will look into it.
Have you ever heard about the iphone app named Killer13? If not, I would like to introduce it to you. http://itunes.apple.com/us/app/killer13/id447307597?mt=8 Enjoy a new taste of iphone gaming experience with fun – filled amusement. Don’t be the last to download it!

http://itunes.apple.com/us/app/eat-health/id549426450?mt=8
Sweet site and page! I think TuneWiki needs to be added to the audio section. It is a pretty sweet music player with lyrics. A must to check out.
introMAKER is a great App as it allows you to quickly exchange information with people you meet and share that information with your direct contacts.
How to share the apps which I think awsome here ? Just leave a comment ?
I just use a app called “RockPlayer2″, the best media player app I’ve ever used. Support almost all the formats media files, and 720p mkv file on iPad 2. And the great “RockShare” – you can share your media file with your friends just using your iPhone in wifi, without desktop.
here is their website:http://www.rockplayer.com/rp2/en/
try it !
but why did you leave out nba 2k12 and temple run?
Eat&Health is for free now! The regular price is 2.99$, and now its at no cost.Grab this remarkable app while it’s free. http://itunes.apple.com/us/app/eat-health/id549426450?mt=8
GasBuddy app

Good list. You can also use http://appplot.com (it’s pretty new) to find good iOS apps. It’s easy to sort and rank them by popularity or rating, plus a number of other options. It also can find price drops and new apps as a bonus.
Found a new awesome game called Gibbets 2. You have to try this game out it awesome!! Check it out: http://appdictions.com/draw-back-your-bow-in-gibbets-2-and-save-the-hangman/
as soon as I got my new iPhone .. the first thing that came to my mind was this page
Nice selection, really a lot of great apps!! I would like also recommend one of my favorite apps called “Yes/No oracle”. If you need to make a decision – it’s the best adviser.
Well, at least I know I’m in good company. I have at least one app from your list from nearly every category! I think I know more than I give myself credit for! Thanks for the great list!
Please add iXpenseIt to finance apps. I tried several expense tracker apps, but nothing beats this one in my opinion.
I like from the Galaxy note the capability to “S Note” something, a picture, email, presentation, etc.
Do ou know if something like that for the Iphone / Ipad market ?
thanks
Tatiana,
I personally don’t use Mac devices, but I’m sure a lot of people will be able to suggest suitable apps if you ask on MakeUseOf Answers.
Hi,
I’m new in this website !
I have seen a funny fitness app: Heart Beat Rate (www.heartbeaterate.com).
It measure your pulse with the webcam !!!
I don’t understand how it works? Someone could explain me?
This app is interesting because Health advice and regular monitoring and follow-up are proposed.
It is user friendly and magic.
