How To Tweak The Visual Effects In Windows 8

Well, my upgrade from Windows 7 Home Premium to Windows 8 Pro hasn’t been the smoothest one, but at least I’m slowly figuring things out. One thing that should be considered criminal is that Windows no longer offers the Classic or Standard themes. You know, the flat gray taskbar with the fading, blue window titles? I need my Windows looking like 98. I’ve never been a fan of XP’s glossy default style, and don’t get me started on Aero.

Why You Don’t Need Desktop Chat Clients Anymore

Remember the days of MSN Messenger and AIM? Those two were the first chat clients I ever used. Once I started using them more and more, it became cumbersome to switch between clients and contact windows. Soon after, multiple-chat clients came about, the popular ones being Miranda IM, Trillian, Pidgin and Digsby. They’re still available, but do you really use them? Or need them?

3 Websites For Those Who Are Cat-Obsessed

Forget the Cheezburger Network, and even forget Reddit for a second. We all know the Internet is obsessed with cats, and more importantly, we are aware that cats are actually our furry overlords (while we remain their ever-loyal servants, hence the Internet obsession). Silliness aside, the bottom line is simply that people like cats, right? Well, it seems like everyone already knows the go-to websites to help with their catisfaction.

How To Test Windows 8 On A Tablet

It’s no secret that Windows 8’s new interface is a “touch-first experience” – Microsoft said it themselves. If you’re curious about upgrading to Windows 8, you can try Windows 8 on your PC – but unless you’re using a PC with a touch screen, it just isn’t the same. Assuming you have an iPad or Android tablet lying around, you can test Windows 8 with a touchscreen before you purchase a new Windows 8 PC or tablet.

YouTube Showcase: The Comedy Stylings of Adam Buxton [Stuff to Watch]

Every now and again it’s fun to showcase a particular YouTube user in the regular Stuff to Watch column, and this week it’s British comedian and Internet funny guy Adam Buxton. Unlike the average YouTube success story, Adam was already known for his career on British TV and as part of the comedy duo Adam and Joe before taking his comedy online. Buxton is one of the few mainstream comedians who embraced Internet culture from early on in his career.

5 Great Tips For Recording Audio With Any Smartphone Or Tablet

Your phone is very smart. With Angry Birds, Facebook and mobile office applications, it’s all too easy to forget that some of the features we use most were often available on those very old mobile phones as well. Obviously, that includes calling and texting, but recording audio isn’t a cutting-edge technology either. Nevertheless, recording audio with your smartphone or tablet hasn’t always been a walk in the park.

The First Look At The iPad Mini & What It Has To Offer

Well the iPad Mini has arrived, and Dave was correct back in May about why Apple should have released a smaller iPad 3 and bigger iPod touch device. As Dave outlined, the mini addresses the needs of different users; the entry price is lower and thus affordable for many consumers, and it competes pretty well with the Nexus and Windows tablets. But now that I’ve had my iPad Mini for over 24 hours, I’d like to give some first hand reactions as to what is good and not so good about it.
