A Look At Free Machinima Tools: Make Your Own Game-Themed Movies

Who doesn’t like telling a good story? Imagine bringing your audience into a world you created, and immersing them in a tale full of intrigue, humor, and killer action scenes. Sounds like fun, right? Most people do this by writing stories, but did you know you can actually make animated movies to tell your stories, without having to buy any expensive software?

3 Nintendo 3DS Games That Will Make A Splash In Early 2013 [MUO Gaming]

Nintendo recently released the Wii U, and that seems to be the hot item that gamers are talking about. However, Nintendo has another fairly new console sitting in the background that seems to be mostly forgotten. The Nintendo 3DS is quietly doing its thing, and it has some really good games ready to hit the market. While 2012 was not exactly a landmark year for the 3DS, Nintendo’s price drop kicked it in gear a little more.

A Latecomer’s Introduction To Minecraft [MUO Gaming]

Minecraft, the block-based sensation that took gaming by storm, is now well over three years old. It’s almost hard to believe it’s been that long since the first alpha was posted – and it’s equally hard to believe how far the game has come. The small indie title has spawned a successful company has transformed from a simple block-based building tool into a game with multiple modes that works on multiple platforms.

Australian Police Warn Drivers Not To Rely On Apple’s iOS 6 Maps App [Updates]

Police in the Australian state of Victoria have recently warned drivers about the potential dangers of relying on Apple’s notoriously unfinished Maps app bundled with iOS 6. In a news story posted on the Victorian Police News website, authorities from the remote town of Mildura warned that the navigation app has been diverting drivers 70 kilometres (43 miles) off-course into the heart of the Murray-Sunset National Park. As similar problems could occur anywhere in the world, iPhone (and iPad) users from all countries are reminded that they can still access Google Maps on their devices by visiting maps.google.com in their browser.

Apple iPad Mini Review and Giveaway

This is a much overdue review, I’ll admit, but instead of publishing a breezy overview of the iPad mini, I wanted to experience and integrate it in my daily life in order to truly tell you if Apple’s latest creation — this overpriced 7.9″ tablet — is really worth spending so much money on. Before we begin, here’s a disclaimer: I love all Apple products from iPhones to iMacs. But when the iPad mini was announced, I wasn’t so sure. Anyway, we purchased a Slate 16GB iPad mini (WiFi-only model) for $329 to find out if Apple poured as much heart and soul into it; as they have for their previous products. After the review, we’re giving this 16GB iPad mini away to one MakeUseOf reader!

DomainHostingView Makes WHOIS Lookups Easier Than Ever [Windows]

Earlier this month, I wrote about how to look into a domain name’s WHOIS information as a way to gauge the authenticity and trustworthiness of the website. It was only upon having that post published that I realized that WHOIS lookup is a capability that many people never even knew existed. While that article was specifically tailored towards assisting users in gauging the age and origin of a website, there are many alternative uses for WHOIS.
