OnePlus, the company that started with the "Never Settle" tagline, is settling down with OPPO.

In a post on the OnePlus forums, the company has announced that it will be merging many of its teams with OPPO to bring better products to its customers.

OnePlus had already merged its hardware R&D team with OPPO at the beginning of this year. Seeing the benefits of the merger, the two companies are further deepening this merger.

Why Is OnePlus Merging More Teams With OPPO?

OnePlus says that the merger will provide it with more resources to create "better products" for customers. It will also help the company become more efficient and roll out "faster and more stable" software updates for its devices. OnePlus customers frequently complain about buggy software releases from the company, so this would be a welcome improvement.

OnePlus says in its announcement that this will be a "turning point" for its future and allow it to better support its future products. The company has been expanding its product portfolio in recent years, so the additional resources should be helpful here.

OnePlus phones run on OxygenOS, while OPPO has ColorOS for its devices. Both skins are vastly different from each other in terms of UI/UX, so it remains to be seen what impact the merger has on OxygenOS.

OnePlus was known for its quick and speedy software update policies when its products first hit the market. However, in recent years, OnePlus has lagged in this aspect, with its software update quality also taking a hit.

Despite multiple OnePlus and OPPO teams merging together, OnePlus will continue to operate independently as a brand. This means OnePlus will continue to have a different product lineup than OPPO.

OnePlus and OPPO Are Owned by the Same Parent Company

OnePlus further deepening its ties with OPPO should not be surprising for anyone who has been following the two companies closely. OnePlus co-founder and CEO Pete Lau joined OPPO as the SVP and Chief Product Experience Officer in August 2020 while continuing his role at OnePlus.

Both OnePlus and OPPO are owned by Chinese smartphone giant BBK Electronics, which also owns Realme. While the two brands have always painted a picture of working independently, the flagship phones of both companies have usually shared the same components.

The two companies also tend to share the same technology. For example, both OnePlus and OPPO offer 65W or faster charging speeds on their devices that can fully charge a device in under 30 minutes.
