Splitting bandwidth load seems like a good idea, especially for ‘click here for a larger image’ type links. I wouldn’t worry about urlsplit’s server capabilities since all it needs to handle are URL redirects.

I guess one potential use for it would be to share the bandwidth load for something you know in advance is likely to experience a lot of hits … although it does then rely on the ability of urlsplit.com’s server to cope with that scenario so it may just move the problem somewhere else.

Here’s an idea if you have multiple web sites: use it for a single-link email signature, or a “random site” like button on one of your sites. I haven’t done it yet, but I think I’ll try it since in addition to http://www.aspaceintime.com , I also have drafting.aspaceintime.com, foodservice.aspaceintime.com, and cadd.aspaceintime.com…
