If you are having a hard time learning a word, than GraphWords is a website you might want to check out. It allows you to examine a meaning visually. Instead of reading a dictionary and simply defining a word, GraphWords shows you the word visually. It shows lines connecting the word with other words of similar meaning.

You can also see how a word fits in with other words. For example, if you type “use” into the draw box you would see words like usage, consumption, purpose and manipulate. You can mouse over the word to see the meaning of each word, which will help you understand how it connects to “use.”

If you like to save the word you are examining, you can save it as an image simply by clicking the “Save as Image” button at the top of the screen.

Features:

Massive database of English words.

If you keep track of world news, you would know that the hottest story at the moment is the massive release of data from US embassy diplomatic cables that’s planned by the website Wikileaks today (by the time this post is published, they would have released the docs.) Some top newspapers around the world will publish that data, and that includes UK’s Guardian. In order to help people navigate the enormous amount of information easily, it has built an interactive guide to go through various sections of that data quickly and easily.

You can search for specific keywords or search by the country. If you choose the search on map option, you could go for the originating country or country referenced in the data. As you click on a dot on the map, it pulls up the titles of related articles, which when clicked direct you to the corresponding article on Guardian’s site.

Features

Visualize the leaked US Embassy cables

Search by keywords or country

Check related articles

Reading and making sense of the words used in dictionaries is an art that not many people have mastered. Regular paper dictionaries usually do a very bad job of explaining synonyms and the relations between words and their meanings. This is where Snappy Words comes in.

Snappy Words is an online dictionary that displays words and their meanings in an easy to understand graphical view.

Words and their meanings and synonyms are displayed in a color coded graph where each color depicts a relation. The colors make it easy for anyone to understand the relation that is being depicted at a glance. For example, from the above image, you can tell that a christmas berry is a “kind of” shrub or bush and that it is also a word for “Toyon”.

Features:

Interactive visual dictionary online.

No registration required to use.

Free to use for any number of word searches.

Easy to understand color codes.

Brings an element of fun to the boring task of reading dictionaries.

When searching for products on online shopping stores, you often have to fight through a clutter of text to reach the desired item. But mostly you ignore the text and focus on the images to get to your product’s page. Spotli is a visual product search engine that provides you with an image-only product searching method.

Spotli is a free website that conducts searches over popular online shopping networks. The supported networks include Amazon, eBay, Buy.com, Best Buy and few others. You start by choosing the shopping network tab, entering the search keywords, and then optionally setting a price range and specifying your Zip code. You can also narrow down your search to specific product categories.

The search results are then shown as images along with the product’s price.

If you find a set of results worth saving you can create an account on the site and save your search results. In the search results the products can be sorted as best matches, soon ending offers, latest listings, and lowest / highest priced. You can hover your mouse pointer over an image to enlarge it, view a few of its details, and share it on Facebook.

Clicking on the image will take you to its page on the shopping store.

Features:

Ebay, Bestbuy and Amazon visual search engine.

Helps you easily find products on online shopping networks.

Displays images of products and eliminates redundant text.

Lets you enter your price range and zip code to get better search results.

While writing a report or research-type paper on a famous personality you often need images of their faces. But on the web when you search for somebody’s pictures, every type of picture shows up including group photographs. To filter these pictures and view only the face ones, pay a visit to iFaceSearch.

iFaceSearch is a very simple to use website which acts as a search engine for face images. On the site’s homepage you find a text bar where you can enter the name of a famous personality. When you click on the “Let’s Search” button, that personality’s face images are pulled from all over the web.

You might find a small percentage of the search results irrelevant but I observed that most of them were exactly what were required. iFaceSearch can display the data in four views: Image Flow, Classic, HD, or Low-res. You can select the view according to your preferences and get your desired image.

Similar-Images is an experimental similar image search service provided by Google which lets you search for images using other pictures instead of keywords. It’s a useful feature, since searching with keywords doesn’t always get you the image results you expected. For example, the image search for keyword “Paris” will return images of Paris, the capital of France, and of Paris Hilton, the celebrity. Similar keyword, different image results.

But when you search with a picture, you are likely to get mostly relevant results since it will search for images similar to the picture you selected.

To make use of similar image search feature, first you have to search for an image using keywords. When you found an image relevant to what you expected, click on “Similar images” below it to find other similar pictures.

For more info watch demo video below:

Features:
