Has it ever happened that you vaguely remember a character, a font or a shape but you don’t exactly know what it was called? How do you find out? You can’t exactly Google it, can you? The answer here would be a tool like ShapeCatcher. Just draw the shape (it doesn’t matter how bad you are at drawing it), and it will try to recognize the character and produce a list of possible matches.

It does quite a good job. I drew a number of shapes and characters and it always had the right match in its list of possible matches.

The tool was created to recognize unicode characters that we only roughly know the shape of. As you see in the screenshot above, it shows the possible shape along with information related to that character. It doesn’t require any sign up, so you could just start drawing in the box and hit “recognize” to get the results.

Features

Draw shapes and characters and find their names.

No registration needed.

Web Font Services is an index of the most popular services available on the web along with their different features. In addition to listing the browsers each service supports, this index also tells you how many fonts each service has, what embedding methods they use, if they are free or paid, languages they cover and any limitations they have in terms of bandwidth or number of users.

The index covers over 12 major web font services and provides in-depth information on all you would want to know before choosing one of them. It also tells you if they offer a trial account and what plugins they support, if any.

How much significance can you attach to type? Does Gotham signify certain personality traits that Gilli Sans doesn’t? What are those and how are they related? Pentagram is a fun little video-based tool that lets you find out. It helps you answer the question “What Type Are You?” by asking certain personality trait questions and in the end providing a recommendation.

Take the test and see if your type face accurately represents your personality. The tool has been put together after seven years of academic research and the results, though controversial at times, are usually claimed to be quite true. The catchy background music and the character in video makes it even more interesting. In the end, you can also read about other types and see how popular your type is.
