James Cameron’s Avatar is probably one of the biggest movies of the decade. The indigenous people portrayed in the movie speak a totally different language called Navi. Unlike languages in some other sci-fi movies, Navi is an actual language created by a linguist at University of Southern California. Now you can learn it too with the help of Navilator.

Navilator is an Avatar Na’vi language translator that lets you translate any English words or phrases into the Navi language. Just enter your text and click the button. Currently it only offers English to Navi translations but a Navi to English version is coming soon. The words that cannot be translated are highlighted in red. An API is also under development that will allow other webmasters to use Navilator on their websites.

LangId is a web based foreign language identifier which can help you easily identify almost any language. You could either copy paste the text directly, upload a document or email them the text to get the answer. They have also got a Twitter bot named @langidbot which could help you in identifying a language.

As you can see, in the above screenshot I have copy pasted a line of text which is in a language I need to identify. I get the result immediately after I click the ‘ Identify It ‘ button.

Pretty cool online translator and dictionary tool that runs within the browser. Lingro takes any webpage and lets you instantly lookup meaning or translation for any word on that page. Click on any word or sentence to get its translation in English, Spanish, French, Polish, German or Italian. You can also playback the pronunciation of every word (see screenshot below), add definitions and edit the existing ones.

The interactive interface enbales user to switch between different languages with a single click. There is also an option to archive and add words to your wordlist.

Please note that Lingro is not a website translation service, but more like a tool to lookup word meanings without leaving the current web page. If you need something that does full website translation then better try Google Translate.

Quick and useful online translator from Microsoft. Not only you can use it as a regular text translator but also as a browser for translating web pages. Text translations are quite straightforward, simply copy and paste text, select from/to langauges and you’re done.

When it comes to web page translation you get a bit more. Webpage translations will be presented in a Bilingual View (see image below), with original copy on the left and translated version on the right. From Bilingual view you can continue browsing through links in the original copy and simultaneuosly view corresponding translations on the second half of the screen. Basically, whatever is done on the left part gets instantly replicated and translated on the other half of the browser window.
