Wavelength is a web app that lets you listen to songs together with your friends. You start by creating a room that has a unique URL; you share this URL with friends so they can join the room as well. Next you upload songs from your computer or if you have already signed up, you can add songs from your LastFM account; links to music videos on YouTube can also be added. Your friends can add songs the same way. The left pane shows the audio controls and playlists while the right pane shows YouTube videos and a chatting interface.

Anybody in the chatroom can pause or skip songs and a similar action will be performed across all users computers. All people in the chatroom can also correct song titles using a renaming feature – something that will be very helpful if you want help in finding out the artist and name of a song.

DropTunes is a free and simple web service that plays the audio files contained within your Dropbox account. The site comes in Flash and HTML5 modes; the Flash mode only plays mp3 files whilst the HTML5 mode supports mp3, m4a, ogg, and wav audio formats.

You start by providing DropTunes the username and password of your Dropbox account. Your Dropbox folders are then loaded and displayed. Click on the one containing your music files; the folders appear on the left pane while the contained files appear on the right pane. Songs can be played by clicking on them.

Since DropTunes works by creating a new Dropbox folder for configuration files, to play audio files you need to have equally free space in your Dropbox account e.g. to play a 5 MB song you must have at least 5 MB free space in your Dropbox.

MpppIt is a free to use web app that lets you find and stream songs online. Additionally it can be used to download songs directly into your iTunes library. You start by entering the song or artist’s name on the site. Then you click on the song you are looking for; this starts playing the song in the site’s online audio player.

If you link your Dropbox account with MpppIt you can upload the song being streamed to your Dropbox account. By configuring your desktop Dropbox client to store downloaded files in your iTunes media library folder, you have songs downloaded from your Dropbox account saved directly in your iTunes folder thereby instantly adding them to your iTunes library.

Using a similar approach, you can have the songs added to the library of any media player.

CueThat is a simple browser extension for Mozilla Firefox and Google Chrome. The extension lets you easily add movie titles to your Netflix queue.
