Have a tune stuck in your head but can’t remember from where? It’s frustrating whenever that happens. But thanks to Name My Tune, you can now get help from others recognizing which song you are thinking of.

Name My Tunes is a free to use website that lets you sing or hum a tune into your microphone. Other visitors to the site then listen to your recorded tune and help you recognize the song. When somebody suggests a song for your tune, you are sent a notification email.

You can also help others recognize their tunes. Simply select a music genre, era, and then listen to available tunes others have sung or hummed. Then name the song and help others out of their frustration.

AudioTag: A Simple Music Recognition Tool Online

People often come across songs that they love but don’t know any details about. A music recognition application “AudioTag” can be a great help in such cases. With a library of over 1.3 million tracks, AudioTag can help you identify any song that you upload from your computer.

Musipedia: Find Song Without Knowing Its Name Or Words

Everyone has had a tune stuck in their head but have been unable to find the name of the song. Maybe it was on a commercial, in a TV show or just playing in a cafÃ© ““ there is nothing more frustrating than loving a song and not being able to listen to it.

Musipedia is an online service (which self proclaims to be inspired by Wikipedia) that helps users find songs and compositions without knowing their names or words. It gives people a set of online tools to find the song by whistling, tapping, using piano keyboard or drawing notes.

For those who are musically minded, you can play out the tune using provided keyboard (comes in both Flash and Java versions) or drawing notes. The system will then compare the tune against its database to find your song. Don’t worry ““ it doesn’t have to be perfect; just recognizable.

Now me, I cant even read music let alone replicate it so I went for the easier option; whistling. Using a microphone (most laptops have them built in these days) you can whistle the tune for a few seconds so that Musipedia can recognize the song and give you the results. Just make sure your microphone is set up correctly and you’re not too close as this will distort the sound.

MelodyCatcher is an ideal website for those moments when you have a music tune stuck in your head and not able recall its name. Basically, it’s a melody search engine which lets you search for tunes by playing them on a virtual piano keyboard.

Using the site is easy, just try to reproduce the melody by clicking on virtual piano keys. When you have something resembling the tune, hit on the “Search” button. MelodyCatcher searches the web and returns a list of what it thinks are similar tunes. You may listen to melodies online and download any tune you like.

If you are finding it hard to play the virtual piano the site lets you also use the regular text search instead. Or alternatively you may try few other websites mentioned in recent MakeUseOf about how to find a song by its lyrics.

If you ever tried to remember a song or soundtrack from a movie I am sure you know how difficult it can be. So how do you find that soundtrack if you remember the movie but don’t know its name?
