After creating an account you can start uploading your documents. The documents must be in PDF format. Next you type in the names and email addresses of the people you want to electronically sign the document. A block of their signatures is created; these blocks need to be dragged to your documents wherever you want the e-signatures to appear. The document link is then emailed to the people whose signatures are required.

When people visit the link emailed to them, they are able to view the document and leave an electronic signature. They can even add a picture through their webcam to their e-signature. The signature notifications are then sent to all parties.

HelloFax is a simple to use web service that lets us fax any type of document to a fax number in the US. All you have to do is sign up for an account and click the activation link you are emailed. You then upload your document and enter the fax number of the recipient. You can also enter the email address of the recipient in case you want to email the document through HelloFax.

Signing the documents is also possible. You can specify a signature through your mouse or laptop’s touchpad. This signature can be used on the documents you fax.

Currently HelloFax lets you send up to 20 free faxes per account.

eSignature is an Adobe service that lets us create a free account and then create an eSignature (a signature we can create through the service). We can then upload any PDF file sized smaller than 25MB. We can attach a note to this PDF file and send it to others via email. Recipients need to have an eSignature as well. They click on the URL contained within the email to be taken to the document. Once they read it, they can sign it with their eSignature using just one click. Once all signatures have been obtained, the Adobe Electronic Signature service marks the document to indicate that no changes were made to it since it was signed.

Creating and sending is easy. It involves creating a contact by entering his/her name and e-mail and then creating a “˜template’ which will act as the bare bones for the contract. You do this using a rich text editor on the site; although you can also simply paste in your own template. A good template includes spaces for names, dates, terms and the header.

Once this is done, simply save the template and create a document like I’m doing in the screenshot above. Name your document and the person concerned and then select your template. Then, you can further edit the template to make it specific to this agreement by entering in exact details such as monetary values, timeframes and persons involved. You can also add expiry dates and authentication methods (you can even select Twitter if you want your client to agree by tweeting the document).

Once you have previewed the document in whichever format you intend to send it as, click “˜save and send‘. This will bring you to a page where you can customize the message your correspondent will receive. The document URL is also supplied on this page. Click “˜Send‘ to dispatch the document. When it is signed, you will be notified via e-mail.
