If you have a large disorganized library of images stored on your computer, surely there must be many duplicates on your hard drive. To manually find those duplicates would mean physically searching each folder and subfolder for photos and then cross-referencing them. But using a helpful desktop application you can now automate this process and identify not only duplicate but also similar images. This app is called Image Comparer.

Image Comparer is a desktop application for Windows operating systems. As mentioned above, the function of the app is to compare images within a gallery of images and then find out which images are duplicates of one another. The image can also be set on a similarity filter that judges images by their percentage similarity. Once your results are compiled from your specified image folder, they are displayed as thumbnails.

You can click on the “Image Pairs” tab to view the duplicate pairs. With each pair you will find a percentage of similarity figure clearly mentioned. You will also find both images displayed and their filepaths displayed.

You can selectively remove the duplicates by deleting those images or exclude a pair from the list entirely.

PhotoCal: Sort & Organize Photos By Date Taken [iPhone & Android]

If you use your iPhone or Android phone as the primary camera and take a load of photographs with it, then try out PhotoCal, which organizes images according to their date, making them much easier to find and sort.

The application allows users to sort their photos by date, month, in a calendar view or by map; which shows the location where the photograph was actually taken. You can also set a passcode lock on the application (this is not available in the free version).

To get started, the user first needs to download the application, once done just run the application on your iPhone or Android device and you can then view your photos sorted according to the date on which they were taken.

The Photocal update is available as an in-app purchase for $0.99.

Today people usually share photographs of events through their Facebook photo albums. CanvasDropr is a free to use web service that lets you easily share photographs with friends by letting them collaborate on the albums you create. You start by creating an account on the site after which you can create a ‘canvas’ where you simply drop photographs from your computer. You can give your canvas a relevant title and share its URL with friends. Friends visit your canvas, request to be added to it, you accept their request, and they are able to add photographs too. Image-Zoom: Zoom And Rotate Images Without Downloading Them [Firefox]

The only way to have a better look at an image on a particular webpage, either by zooming into it to look at specific details or maybe rotating it clockwise or anti-clockwise, is by downloading it first and then using a basic image editing tool to get the job done. If you are using Firefox and find yourself doing this often then you need this add-on called Image Zoom. It does it all within Firefox so you don’t need to download images separately.

As you can see in the screenshot above, there are plenty of zooming options that you can put to use. The rotate options are rotate right, left, 180 degrees and a rotate reset option to go back to the original position of the image.

Going to one of your favorite bars and finding the place grossly overcrowded is almost always a disappointment. To help you find out what a place looks like before visiting it is a service called Crowdmug.

Crowdmug is an iOS application that lets you request photos of the places you are going to visit. Although the app is free to download, you will need to offer up some cash to people for requesting the abovementioned photos. Videos can also be requested. You need only specify the location, the time, and your cash to share your request with the app’s users.

Teleportd: Location Based & Real-Time Photo Search Engine For iOS

There are a number of photo apps for iOS devices, the ones that allow you to either take photos and customize them directly or decorate the photos you have in your albums through filters, effects etc. A lot of these photos are public and Teleportd – in their own words – wants to make sense of them. It pulls in the public photos from most of such apps and aligns them to current happenings across the world thus showing your real-time information with photos.

The app does not reveal a lot of information on how it works or which apps it can connect to so you’ll need to try it out and see for yourself. It is free to use and requires iOS 4.0 or higher. Works on iPod touch too.
