If you have a large disorganized library of images stored on your computer, surely there must be many duplicates on your hard drive. To manually find those duplicates would mean physically searching each folder and subfolder for photos and then cross-referencing them. But using a helpful desktop application you can now automate this process and identify not only duplicate but also similar images. This app is called Image Comparer.

Image Comparer is a desktop application for Windows operating systems. As mentioned above, the function of the app is to compare images within a gallery of images and then find out which images are duplicates of one another. The image can also be set on a similarity filter that judges images by their percentage similarity. Once your results are compiled from your specified image folder, they are displayed as thumbnails.

You can click on the “Image Pairs” tab to view the duplicate pairs. With each pair you will find a percentage of similarity figure clearly mentioned. You will also find both images displayed and their filepaths displayed.

You can selectively remove the duplicates by deleting those images or exclude a pair from the list entirely.

PhotoLive: Download Entire Photo Albums Off Facebook & Similar Sites

Viewing photographs from Facebook’s native interface is not always a convenient option. Loading times and connection speeds can make the photo-viewing experience time-consuming. Here to help solve this problem by letting you download all images to your hard drive is a tool called PhotoLive.

PhotoLive is a browser tool that helps you download photo albums off Facebook and similar websites. The site provides you with a bookmarklet without asking you to register for any account. Once you are on an album page on Facebook, simply click on the bookmarklet. If you are on Facebook you will be asked whether you want to download photos regularly or in high resolution. Next your photographs are divided into various sections made available as ZIP files to download. When one archive completes downloading you can proceed to downloading the next one.

Kaptur: Organize Videos & Photos From Events At One Place

Kaptur is a web based service that lets you organize photos, music and videos from an event all in one place. It helps you connect with friends (the ones who attended that event with you and took pictures, videos, etc) on social networks like Facebook, Flickr, etc and pulls in the photos and other media from there onto Kaptur’s interface. The photos and videos are arranged chronologically and you can view them as a slideshow too. Videos can be added from YouTube and Vimeo, and photos from Flickr (and of course Facebook).

The tools has a nice interface and come in handy for people who tend to attend a lot of events and like to keep their event-related photos and videos synchronized. It needs more social networks though, like Twitter for example.

Photo editing apps nowadays are seemingly polarized as they are either too simple to be practical to use, or too complicated for most users. Either way, most of us are not getting the results we are hoping we would get when we have tools that are not right for us.

Fortunately, we have Neatberry’s PhotoStyler, a cool OSX app for editing photos that attempts to strike the balance between user-friendliness and usefulness of features, making it a promising photo editing app for most average users. This app allows you to easily add artistic touches to your photos in a breeze, thanks to the various presets for photo styling.

When launching PhotoStyler, the app by default will take you to the Presets Library where you can easily look for a design that you would like to apply on a photo. You can easily drag and drop or load a picture so that you can easily preview how it would turn out after applying a preset.

Once you have selected on a picture to edit, the app will take you to the document view. From there you may start manipulating the photo where you can add filters or more effects. Some of these filters include a masking tool, inscriptions, sprite, crop, rotator, and glass frame. Some of these filters are also a combination of photo effects to increase the speed of your workflow.

Another very useful feature of PhotoStyler is batch processing. With this, you can select a preset and apply it to a number of photos. This definitely makes photo editing a whole lot faster and simpler.

PhotoStyler is a very nice photo editing app that Mac users should definitely check out. People who love to edit their photos will surely love this app.

PicknZip: Download Your Photos From Facebook

If you use Facebook, the chances are that you’ve uploaded a number of your photos to it, some of which are not backed up by you in a separate location. So if Facebook decides to block your account tomorrow, your photos are gone too. Hence a tool like Pick & Zip should be used now and then to download your Facebook photos. It lets you download your photos, albums and even the ones you were tagged in, in zipped format to your computer. Log in with Facebook, give permission and proceed.

I think this is the first such tool that I’ve come across that lets you back up your tagged photos (ones which your friends uploaded) too. You can also make a selection of the best pictures and then download them.

ShareYourShots: Quick & Free Group Picture Sharing

ShareYourShots is a new entrant in group photo sharing space which intends to provide a centralized location for all the snaps taken by people who’ve attended the same event. The way it works is simple – anyone can sign up and create an event page, grab an access code and then distribute that to the attendees of the event. After the event, a guest can use that access code to upload photos to that page. They don’t need to sign up either. Once the photos get accumulated, prints can be ordered from the site too.

A free account lets you upload and share photos, and also bypass the requirement to enter an access code to view a friend’s album. A premium account, that costs $6 per month, gives you more customization and privacy controls.
