Today’s professional cameras are highly technical devices that cost a lot of money. In case they get stolen, the camera owner should have a reliable way of tracking down the thief. One reliable way is provided by a new web service, provided by GadgetTrak, called Serial Search.

The service finds photos through the serial number of the camera used to shoot the pictures. Digital cameras now save EXIF information into the metadata of shot images. Serial Search uses this metadata to track down online images using the camera’s serial number. Such a search can not only find camera thieves, but also help ensure your copyrighted images are not being used on other websites.

Serial Search supports an impressive list of camera companies and models; a complete list is available on the service’s website.

Features:

Modern digital cameras store their serial number in the metadata of pictures they take. If somebody who has stolen your digital camera shoots photos with it and uploads them to the web, you can use the serial number to track down the camera. An easy way you can do this is through is Stolen Camera Finder.

Stolen Camera Finder is a free web service that searches for photos that have your stolen digital camera’s serial number stored in their metadata. If you know the camera’s serial number you can manually enter it into the site; otherwise you can drag a photo shot from the camera earlier into the site’s interface – the site then reads the serial number from the picture’s metadata. With the serial number obtained, the site crawls the web to look for any photos with your camera’s serial number in its metadata and then displays the links to you.

Stolen Camera Finder works for most digital cameras. For a complete list of supported models, refer to the tool’s website.

Features:

A user-friendly web service.

Lets you find photos online with your camera’s serial number in the metadata.

Helps find lost and stolen digital cameras.

Lets you enter serial numbers manually.

Can automatically detect camera’s serial number if you drag photo on site.

Lost Pet Atlas is where you should create a profile for your pet if they are lost and you can’t seem to find them. It is an online directory of lost and found pets in the US. It lets pet owners search for their pets by selecting the type of pet they have (only cat and dog options are available), the status (lost or found), city, state and zip code. Pets that have been found come up on a map on the right along with their picture and other details below the map. If someone finds a pet and puts it up on the site, and he is within 30 miles of your location, you will get notified via email.

So this isn’t just a place to report lost pets. If you’ve found someone’s pet, you should create a profile and report him “found” on the site. Also, if your pet returns back home safely, make sure you mark him as safe on the site.

The site serves this purpose in a very simple manner; if you find a lost camera that contained photos, you can email at least 4 of those photos to the site along with additional details, if any. The photos will then be published on the site.

New pictures are posted on Mondays, Wednesdays, and Saturdays; if you recognize somebody in the pictures you can communicate with the site via email and help the camera owners regain their camera or at least their pictures. If you want others to help recognize the people in photographs, you can share the photos across a number of online social networks.

SendMeHome is an innovative concept built into a nice free website. As it mentions – ” A free tool to recover lost items “. It accomplishes this by asking you to register your precious items by creating an account and assigning them a unique tag ID which they claim would never be taken off. Then you can print out that tag label and paste it on the item. If you lose it and someone else finds it, then by looking at the label he can understand that he needs to go to that website to return or ship that item to you.

As you can see in the screenshot above, it’s a 3 step process where you create a tag and then paste the label on the item and the 3rd item comes if you lose it and someone finds it and enters the tag at the website. Of course it cannot control the intentions of that person if he is not willing to return what he found out.
