Frrole is an awesome service that currently works in 20 international cities, 13 of which are in the United States. It turns Twitter into your very own social newspaper, filled with the top tweets from your city of choice. It is an awesome way to keep track of what is happening locally, without having to manually scan Twitter.

Each city’s tweets are divided into 6 categories – sports, entertainment, travel, events, deals and jobs. There is also an “Everything” category that shows you the latest from all 6 combined. Dividing it this way allows you to only find the stuff that interests you. So, if you are a sports guy, you can ignore all the other stuff and just read the best tweets about sports.

You can actually retweet any tweet you enjoy from Frrole, making it easy to share anything you think is awesome. Of course, each tweet is linked to the original tweet on Twitter, so you can click that to see it on Twitter at any time.

Features:

Currently supports 20 cites, with more to be added.

Turns Twitter into a social newspaper.

Retweet and share tweets on Facebook right from Frrole.

Has it ever happened that you had a place – such as a restaurant, a tourist attraction, an art gallery or any such place – in your must-visit list and you were near it but didn’t know and ended up finding out later? That’s why an app like Near2There can come in so handy. It can alert you when you are near your favorite place and you can then ensure that you don’t miss visiting it. There are apps for iPhone and Android, and a bookmarklet to save places to their web based dashboard.

You’ll obviously need to add the places as placemarks on the tool first so that it knows what’s on your list of must-visit places. It’ll pop up a notification on your phone alerting you that you are somewhere near that place, provided that it is able to exactly determine your location.

Features

Get notified when you are near your favorite place.

Apps for both Android and iPhone available.

SImilar tools: Remember It App and Getupp.

Antimap Log is a tool that comes in the form of apps for iOS and Android phones, and helps to record and visualize – as they call it – “your own data.” The presence of the word “map” in their name might have given you an idea that it probably has something to do with location. It’s true. The data it can record is latitude, longitude, compass direction, speed (kph), distance (kms), time (milliseconds), and an input field for “optional points of interest”.

This data is recorded through GPS and compass sensors while you are doing outdoor activities like snowboarding, running, skiing, and so on. It is then stored as a CSV file and you can visualize and analyze it.

The app has some limitations, such as the data it stores is 1MB in size so you’ll probably need to delete previous data often, and it cannot work without GPS. It’s a niche app and doesn’t have a use for everyone out there, but is surely interesting.

Features

Record and visualize outdoor activity data.

Needs GPS to work.

Check out Antimap Log @ itunes.apple.com/app/antimap-log/id486524181 (iPhone app) and market.android.com/details?id=com.trentbrooks.AntiMapLog (Android app) (By Abhijeet from Guiding Tech)

Roamz is a new location based app that lets you discover whats going on around you. It taps social services like Facebook, Twitter, Foursquare and Instagram to show you what people in your location are enjoying. You can completely filter your results based on your interests and toggle certain categories on or off. You can also filter out happenings that are not child or pet friendly.

This eliminates the need for you to go through various social networks as Roamz creates a stream of information and presents it to you in a visual manner including input and feedback from your friends. The location based recognition is stronger in metro areas than in small cities and towns so that is one area Roamz will have to improve on.

There are a number of photo apps for iOS devices, the ones that allow you to either take photos and customize them directly or decorate the photos you have in your albums through filters, effects etc. A lot of these photos are public and Teleportd – in their own words – wants to make sense of them. It pulls in the public photos from most of such apps and aligns them to current happenings across the world thus showing your real-time information with photos.

The app does not reveal a lot of information on how it works or which apps it can connect to so you’ll need to try it out and see for yourself. It is free to use and requires iOS 4.0 or higher. Works on iPod touch too.

Features

Search public photos on iOS in real-time

Shows you what’s happening around the world with those photos

Free, needs iOS 4.0 or higher

Free Campsites is a free to use website that is targeted at camping enthusiasts. The site lets you search for camping locations according to various regions in Canada and the USA. You can start browsing by moving and magnifying the map or by entering a location. Different markers on the map correspond to free camping sites, pay sites, sites that require passes, and sites that have not yet been verified.

These unverified sites are mostly user suggestions; you too can add site suggestions that you do not find already listed on Free Campsites. For details on any site, simply click on its marker and read its detailed information.
