If you are a student in the US then Amazon’s new Kindle Textbook Rental service could help you save money by renting textbooks instead of buying them. Amazon has a huge collection of textbooks in its catalog and it is now allowing students to rent them on Kindle devices and various Kindle apps for computers and mobile devices.

The books can be rented from 30 to 360 days, and can be converted to a purchase anytime during that period. Even if you don’t own a Kindle, you can read them on the Kindle app for PC, Mac, iPhone, etc.

Reading books on a Kindle is awesome but it can be much more fun if you can read online magazines, blogs and even newspapers on it. Amazon doesn’t allow it directly but you can use Send To Reader to send any webpage to your Kindle device. To start with, you have to register for free at Send To Reader and allow your Kindle to receive emails from Send To Reader.

Once you do that, drag the bookmarklet to your browser bar. Now anytime you want to send the current webpage to your Kindle device, simply click that bookmarklet and you will receive the content on your Kindle. To get better results, use the print version of the website so you don’t have to deal with any unsynchronized formatting.

Update: This only pushes directly to the Kindle if you have a Kindle 3 and Wi-fi. Otherwise, you need to manually sync to the device.

Kindle users will know that there’s a way to clip portions of the book they are reading for future reference. Those clippings get saved in “myclippings.txt” in the documents folder of your Kindle. Clippings converter is a simple tool that converts these clippings into Word, Excel or PDF files for better organization.

You’ll first need to get the myclippings file from your Kindle’s documents folder after connecting the device to your computer. Once you get that, you can upload that to the site and download it in your preferred format.

The formats listed on the site are .xls, .doc or .pdf. That means it only supports the Office 2003 formats. But since the later versions of Office have the compatibility mode, it shouldn’t be a problem for most users using Office 2007 or 2010.

Features

Convert your Kindle clipping to Excel, Word or PDF format.

Find the myclippings.txt in Kindle’s documents folder.

Upload directly. No sign up needed.
