If you happen to be a blogger and just wrote an article, adding images can be a good way to make the post more interesting. If you are looking for a place to find stock photos, give Photo Pin a try.

Photo Pin is a website which allows bloggers, and technically any other person to search for images to use in their articles or just for the sake of viewing. Users can search the images on Flickr but the majority of them are licensed under Creative Commons.

All a user has to do is type in the type of image they are searching for, for example – internet, traffic jam, convention show, cartoons, etc. The website will automatically look over the Internet and provide you with images that you can use in your article.

Once you find the image, you can just click on it and download the image. However, you will also need to paste the given code to give credit to the original artist.

Features

Great for bloggers who are searching for article relevant images.

Search Flickr photos.

Free service – does not require any account to use.

Quick and effective.

Buy stock photos.

While preparing presentations or writing reports, you look for images that will fit your project. This means using Google Image search and going through many results till you find an image you like. But if you are looking for any image of an object, then going through this process seems redundant. If you do not have any strict image requirements, you will find the site JpgTo to be very helpful.

JpgTo is a free to use web service that provides you with an image of any object. There are not any details available on the site as to how these images are selected and where they are selected from; but one thing is for sure: it works.

All you have to do is type the name of an object followed by “.Jpg.To” and paste the result in your browser’s address bar. The site will fetch an image of that object and display it to you. For example if you typed “Macbook.Jpg.To” in your browser’s address bar you will be shown the image of a Macbook laptop. This simple procedure allows for anybody to easily obtain images.

Feaures:

A user-friendly web service.

Helps you get images of anything.

Follows a URL pattern.

Works with any browser.

Src-Img is a simple bookmarklet that helps you search for other sources of an image, using Google Image Search. One objective of the tool is to find the original creators of images you see on blogs without attribution. However, the tool can be used for lots of other purposes.

For example, when you click on the Src-Img bookmarklet in your browser, it searches that particular image on Google Image search and gives you not only a list of all other websites/blogs using that image, but also all other available sizes of that image. The tool is super simple to use and all you have to do is drag the bookmarklet link to your browser to set it up.

When you click on the bookmarklet while viewing a webpage with multiple images, the tool asks you to specify the image you want to look up.

Almost everyone uses Google Image Search to find pictures, and while it does the job well, there are a few quirks that makes image searching bloated and slower. For example, downloading the full size image in Google Image Search is slow, forcing you to go to the source website and click on the full image. If you want to search and download several pictures, you have to go in and out of the search page and the website. This is where too many features take away the joy of finding stuff.

Google Image Ripper is a simple website that makes image searching much more fun. The minimalist layout displays images in thumbnails with a ready download link for each one available, so you do not have to leave the search page to download the image. It also implements a light box script so that you can view your search results like a slideshow.

Google Image Ripper will also allow you to filter pictures with Safe mode, search for different sizes, and show the images’ URLs. Google Image Ripper still uses Google’s search algorithm, so you will have the same results shown to you what Google Image Search will show, only in a much cleaner format.

Features:

Simple alternative to Google Image Search.

Download images directly from the search results page.

View images as slideshow.

Fast searching does not sacrifice important features.

There are a number of photo apps for iOS devices, the ones that allow you to either take photos and customize them directly or decorate the photos you have in your albums through filters, effects etc. A lot of these photos are public and Teleportd – in their own words – wants to make sense of them. It pulls in the public photos from most of such apps and aligns them to current happenings across the world thus showing your real-time information with photos.

The app does not reveal a lot of information on how it works or which apps it can connect to so you’ll need to try it out and see for yourself. It is free to use and requires iOS 4.0 or higher. Works on iPod touch too.

Features

Search public photos on iOS in real-time

Shows you what’s happening around the world with those photos

Free, needs iOS 4.0 or higher

Gladly, a plethora of Flickr-specific tools make it easy and Tiltomo is one of them. Tiltomo lets you search Flickr for photos that are of the same theme, or same color and texture.

Start with choosing one of the many photos recently uploaded on Flickr or search for a photo using tags. Once you like a photo, click on one of the two links underneath it. To go to the actual Flickr photo in its original size, just click on the thumbnail. You can also click on “random photos” to start your search.

There is no dearth of tools when it comes to searching for free images on the web, but probably none of them are as smart as Ookaboo. Ookaboo is an intelligent image search engine that uses the Semantic Web API to intelligently categorize your results. For example, if you search for the keyword “Jaguar”, Ookaboo will split your results into two different categories, one being Jaguar the animal and second being Jaguar the car.

Searching this way saves a lot of time but it also helps the web get smarter on its own since the semantic web is a continuous development phenomenon. All the images indexed by Ookaboo are under Creative Commons license meaning they can be freely used on any website or blog. You can also browse topics that have been searched recently or ones that are most popular. You can view each image in up to 4 different sizes and get the HTML code to directly link or embed the image anywhere.
