RSS.im: Receive RSS Feeds Via Instant Messenger

RSS feeds are extremely useful for getting the latest updates for your favorite website or blog. We usually read our feed from our RSS readers or e-mail. RSS.im is a web app that connects your RSS feed to your instant messaging clients so you can receive rss feeds updates in your IM window.

To subscribe to RSS feeds using this service, just enter feed that you would like to follow or paste its URL in the RSS.IM website. Then input your IM username and select your client. RSS.IM currently supports XMPP/Jabber and Google Talk. The app will add you up and send you a verification code that you need to enter to confirm your feed subscription.

To manage your feed subscriptions, send “LIST” to view the status of your subscription, “STOP” to stop all the notifications, and “START” to activate all previously stopped notifications. Additionally , you can also stop and reactivate a particular domain by sending “STOP ” and “START ” respectively.

If you often find yourself missing important emails from colleagues or contacts you should check out Mail2.im. 1. Sign up with IMVocal (free).

3. Accept request to add IMVocal as a buddy in your IM client (Yahoo, Gtalk, AIM or MSN ).
4. A user can call you by dialling IMVocal’s country specific toll free no. followed by your vocal id.
5. You receive an incoming call on your IM. Simply accept it and start talking.
6. The caller can leave you a voicemail too if your are not online.

You could then search for other buddystumblers and make friends with them. Once you are friends, you could start an online chat in any of the above mentioned IM networks. So basically it lets you find other people in your IM network, get in touch with them and start chatting.

Buddystumbler gives you many options for search. You can find new people by typing their usernames, interests, gender or location. Once you search and find a person you’d like to know, you can review his/her profile and send a note.

Overall, this is a nice and easy way to find new chat friends online.

BuddyUpdates is a cool service from AOL which lets you stay up to date with your AIM buddies’ status updates in various other social networking sites like twitter, delicious, Facebook, MySpace and many other sites. It covers almost all the main social media sharing networks.

When you visit the website it allows you to download a plugin for your AIM messenger which further facilitates the process of checking your friends’ updates within your AIM chat window. The updates appear as alerts in your chat window and you can read them instantly or at a later time.

We have seen such features in multi-protocol IM clients like Pidgin and Digsby but this time it has been introduced by AOL itself and hence AIM fans need not rely on third party products or log on to other sharing sites again and again to check their friends updates.

Firefly is a new web app which lets you chat with the visitors of your blog or website in real time. It gives you a javascript code which can be embedded in your website and set it up in the Firefly admin area. Once it’s done, you will get a small horizontal firefly bar in the bottom right corner of your webpage which updates in real time with the number of people on your site and the number of people talking.

You can chat with maximum 50 visitors at a time. Visitors can type anywhere on the site and chat among themselves. If you are a visitor on a firefly enabled site then you can start chatting directly without the need to install anything.

Overall, this is certainly a nice concept and introduces a new way of spontaneous communication and interaction with the readers of your blog. You can get feedback from your site visitors directly without any time delay. Moreover even your site visitors get to interact with each other and talk about your site.

Yiego works with 3G, HSDPA, GPRS, EDGE and Wi-Fi networks.
