Google Reader Play: Browse Your RSS Feeds Visually

Google Reader is one of the best apps around to read your RSS feeds and now Google is making it even more fun by introducing the Google Reader Play feature. The play feature lets you browse your RSS feeds visually so you can easily skim through them.

You can choose to browse any subscription or category of feeds in Play by simply clicking the little arrow in front of each subscription and selecting View in Reader Play. While browsing items in GoogleReaderPlay, you can still Star, Like or Share an item. A thumbnail strip shows you previous and next feeds to the one you are currently viewing. Feeds are viewed as a slideshow and clicking on the next or previous arrows provides super easy navigation.

Right click any subscription to view in Play.
Star, Like or share item from within the slideshow.
Start/stop slideshow with a single click.

gReactions is a cool comment aggregation add-on for Firefox that integrates blog comments into Google reader. It gathers comments from all over the web and displays below each post directly in your Google Reader. The comments are aggregated from web sources such as FriendFeed, Twitter, Digg, Hacker News, Reddit and many more.

Currently works with Firefox 1.5 – 3.1b2pre, and the process of installation is usual.

Do you use Google Reader? Have you ever wondered whether there is a desktop client that would allow you to access it right from the desktop? Enter ReadAir – Google Reader App for your desktop that works on Adobe Air. The application is quite new and still lacks some of the power-user features but as far as I can tell, all the basics are there.

Immediately after you install the ReadAir application on your computer, you’ll be prompted to enter your Google login information.

Once you enter the user details wait for a few seconds until ReadAir syncs itself with your Google Reader account. The ReadAir interface is quite similar to Google Reader, maybe looks a bit nicer. See screenshot below.

Furthermore, you have an option to control how often ReadAir should sync with Google Reader and check for feed updates.

The only problem I had is with ‘Add Feed’ option, it simply didn’t work for me. The only way I could subscribe to a new feed is via a Google Reader account. Few moments later it would appear in ReadAir as well.
