There are several user cases for Another Earth – especially for educators. For example, you can compare before and after shots of a disaster such as the Japanese Earthquake of 2011. Another Earth is a cool way to apply the Google Earth plugin for the browser. As this plugin gets more use, we will see more creative ways on how Google Earth is viewed and presented with different tools and services.

Google Moon is a free web tool that lets you explore the moon’s surface just like Google Maps lets you view the Earth’s surface. You can see the Moon in three views: Apollo, Visible, and Elevation. The view in the image above is Elevation. You can shift to Apollo to view the landing spots of the Apollo missions.

The Visible view will simply remove the Apollo spots and let you freely explore the Moon’s surface. The maps include dragging features and zoom in/out features. A Charts feature shows Apollo-era geologic and topographic charts for certain areas of the Moon’s surface.

Definitely an educational web service, Google Moon is one of Google’s many interesting projects.

To embed a map on your site, set the location that you want to display by navigating to the map in the Switchmaps website. Then, drop the red marker to the place. Then set your display preferences such as the map layers that can be viewed, map options, Google Earth options, and Street View options. If you’ve got Google Earth installed then chances are that you also have the plugin installed in your browser. Select a location to model, align the 3D shapes with the photos and submit it to the Google 3D warehouse for review. You would need to sign in to your Google account before you submit your model for review. If accepted, your model would be added to Google Earth and you’d be credited for the same.
