One of the greatest uses of technology in recent years has been to connect with people, whether it be through email, instant messaging, audio or video, it’s a lot easier to communicate. And with the development of Web 2.0 social networking sites like FaceBook and MySpace, you can not only keep in touch with a single person, but with an entire community of people if you like.

However, sites like FaceBook and MySpace are used mostly by younger people in college as a place to express themselves through photos, music, and videos. Also, since it’s mostly a form of expression, the sites are not built for tasks like making plans or collaborating together with friends and family.

That’s where a site like Skobee can be very useful. Skobee focuses on two things: making everyday plans with your friends and family and keeping track of it for you. Once you get a couple of friends signed up on the site, you can check out what your friends are doing or where they are going.

Here’s how the site works: you first create a plan either with a specific date in mind or use the fuzzy scheduling feature. “Fuzzy” scheduling means you can be very general with a plan, such as “Sometime next month” or “Some day in the future”. When you plan get’s more specific later on, you can set a date.

Skobee also provides inline search capabilities to help quickly find your destination. If you’re not sure where to go, Skobee generates a list of popular places based on where your friends have been going.

Once a plan has been created and friends invited, the plan can now be modified and discussed by anyone. A new time or place can be suggested and the location is mapped out using Google maps. There is also a built-in discussion board feature that lets everyone talk about and view the details of the plan without having to deal with long email threads.

Once you get a good number of friends on the site, then it becomes much more interesting. Skobee let’s you overlay your fiends plans on top of your own, so you can see what other people are doing and when they will be free. The plans are broken down into Fuzzy plans and Firm plans.

Finally, on your personal homepage, you can view all of your invites, upcoming plans, and friends plans. You can also keep track of all the suggestions, changes in plans, and comments made about the plans.

Overall, Skobee is an interesting site that does a very good job for what it was designed to do: making plans. So next time you are planning a trip or a party, try sending everyone the details via Skobee instead of email and see how it turns out. Enjoy!
