Yoink is a free to use web service that has a very simple task: to help people give stuff locally, for free. As in the example above, if you have anything to give away for free, you can create an account on Yoink; from there you can locate your position on the map and specify what you are giving away for free.

Other Yoink users can see what is being offered near their area. If they are interested in what you are giving away, they will message you through Yoink. You can then arrange a pickup.

The service also has an iOS application that includes the same “˜get’ and “˜give’ features provided by the site.

Your giving through Yoink is measured with “˜generosity points.’ These points are added to your Yoink stats and can be viewed by you. You can use this to match your generosity with others’ on Yoink.

The Freesound Project is a web service that, as its name suggests, offers free sounds. You will find thousands of sounds on the website; all of them are offered under the “Creative Commons Sampling Plus 1.0 License”.

This means that the sounds can be used for free in non-commercial projects. All you have to do to obtain a sound is click on its link; this will open something like in the image above; then right-click on the “Download” button and select “Save as.”

You can play the sound online before downloading, rate it, and leave a comment. The site also has forums on which you can interact after creating an account.
