FlashControl: Block Flash From Auto-Playing On Webpages [Chrome]

I’m sure you have come across websites on the Internet that start playing those video ads without your permission, or may be a video sharing site that starts playing videos even before you hit the play button. This can be annoying and FlashControl is a Chrome extension that helps you prevent this from happening on Chrome. It basically blocks Adobe Flash Player from playing automatically on webpages. It also offers selective re-blocking and whitelisting of certain sites, so there are options to customize it.

The extension is a Google code project, and works somewhat similar to the popular AdBlock extension that disables ads on webpages. If you are a geek, there are many more options in this tool to play around with.

Swiffy: Convert Flash SWF to HTML 5 Files

If you are a webmaster or flash developer, you’d probably be worried with so many iOS devices that can’t support flash. Naturally, you’d feel stuck, but with Google’s Swiffy, you can convert Flash SWF Files to HTML 5 to help you reach a wider audience.

Swiffy output files works straight with HTML 5, removing the need to install plugins in order to play the content. Just load the SWF file, and simply save it as an HTML file. The conversion process uses SVG features that currently load on Webkit-based browsers only such as Google Chrome and Safari.

You can also preview the file on your mobile device right after loading the SWF file. The preview is saved for 15 minutes, which you can then implement in your website if you feel the final conversion is good enough.

Swiffy is currently under Google labs, certainly making it a welcome addition to developers who work with flash content.

Saga 2012: Generate Your Own “2012” Hero Video

Ever since the blockbuster “2012” movie came out, much has been said about how the world will end on that year. Many believe that cataclysmic disasters of today are leading up to 2012 – and with all that is happening around, it is understandable that people are very interested in this date. Saga 2012 is an app that gets a kick out it by letting you create a video depicting you or your friend as the lone hero to save the world.

Saga 2012 starts with the premise that as the world ends, there should be a chosen one to save all the rest. You can upload your own image to the app, zoom or arrange the picture to tweak it, and then load the video. Then what you get is your own self-indulgent piece about a mysterious figure (you!) that will save the world.
