Managing several websites can be very tricky ““ you need to check the security of servers, double-check your source codes, study web analytics, and monitor their uptime. If you have several websites, something is bound to go wrong. Fortunately, Uptime Robot is a free app that alerts you if your website goes down. This allows you to act on the problem and fix your website as quickly as possible.

Once you register and log in, you can add as many as 50 websites that you want to monitor. You can add any website ““ even those that you do not own. The app then smartly checks your websites’ status every 5 minutes.

Uptime Robot does much more than ping your site. First, it searches for websites headers and get status codes like “200-ok” and “404-not found”. If the website does not load, Uptime Robot will perform more checks for the next three minutes. If the website is still down after several checks, the app will alert you through e-mail or SMS. You can also let the app alert multiple contacts to let your friends know when something goes wrong.

All of your added websites are listed neatly and color-coded for easy status checking. Green means the website is up while red means the website is down. Other colors include Grey for “not checked”, Yellow (seems off), and black (paused).

Uptime Robot is a useful tool for website administration and server maintenance. It is also ideal for people who want to check the uptime of their favorite websites.

Features:

Monitors your websites every 5 minutes

Add up to 50 websites

Email and RSS alters

Ajax interface

https and https support

Multiple alert contacts

Free e-mail and SMS alerts

Most web developers depend on popular APIs to integrate information across websites. Thus, the connection to these different APIs should be monitored constantly. API-Status is a web site that provides the uptime status of several popular APIs.

API Status allows you to view and check the status of APIs from services like Facebook, Twitter, Delicious, Digg, Google, YouTube, Paypal, and a lot more. Click on a particular API to see the average daily performance from selected countries presented by a line graph, a map showing its performance by country, and its availability over the week and over the last 24 hours. The website also gives a quick review of any API’s performance by indicating if the service is operating normally, or if it has performance issues or service disruptions.

API status is a handy app for finding all your API connection in one place. This is especially useful as a quick reference tool when troubleshooting your websites.
