Now there is a service that does it for you, called BillGuard.
You simply register your credit and debit card(s) on their site and get a monthly report of your card transactions, analyzed by the service. Your transactions will be grouped as “OK”, “unsure” or a “red flag” based on how “clean” a transaction is. Each transaction is analyzed by over 100 automated tests and is compared against complaints posted by others online about similar questionable charges and merchants that appear on your bill. Whenever it detects suspicious charges you will get alerts in your email.

If you want to take out a loan or apply for a credit card, the most logical place to get these is from a bank. But if you want lower credit card rates, you should try a credit union. With an app called Nerdwallet Credit Union, you can find credit unions in your area plotted into Google Maps and organized for you.

This Google Maps mashup lets you find credit unions by zip code or by name. You can filter credit unions based on military service, type of institution, and other qualifications. What is really useful here is that you can also filter the data based on your FICO score, allowing you to apply only to credit unions that match your current financial situation.

The result will show a list of credit unions and potential saving in your credit card APRs as well as the benefits of each compared to a regular bank. Each listed credit union has a series of stars next to it so you can easily view each of their advantages. You can then go to the website of your chosen credit union to apply.

Nerdwallet Credit Union is a great way to show that there are several alternatives, driving home the point that you have a choice if you feel stuck dealing with banks.

Features:

Free; no sign up required.

Search and compare banks and credit unions on a Google Map.

Search by name or zip code.

Filter based on qualifications and FICO score.

Losing your wallet is a nightmare. You lose all your identification cards, credit cards and other important stuff that can be used to steal your identity. The best thing to do in a scenario like this is to get all your cards canceled so the chances of ID theft are eliminated. However, it is nearly impossible to remember all the different cards you had in your wallet and their contact numbers. Here’s where WalletGarden comes in.

WalletGarden is a simple tool that lets you store information about different kinds of cards in your wallet to a free and secure online account and comes in handy when you lose your wallet. It does not let you store the actual credit card numbers but other related information like the type of card, contact number of customer support, name on card, etc. You can add as many cards as you want and even add notes for each one.

Then if you do lose your wallet someday, you can just come back to your WalletGarden account and know whom to call about each card.
