Although there are numerous web services that let you share text files with friends for collaboration, most of them require you to sign up for an account first. One site that lets you start sharing texts right away is a web service called Kl1p.

Kl1p is a free to use web service that lets you quickly start sharing and collaborating on text files. All you have to do is visit the site’s homepage and specify a subdomain where your text files will be present. You can then create a plain text file, a rich text file, or a programming code file. The rich text version offers various formatting options including various font styles and sizes.

The programming code portion lets you write codes in a variety of programming languages including PHP, CSS, C++, and JavaScript.

When you want to share the text, simply provide your friends with the URL you made earlier and they will be able to view and edit your files.

Clip: An Internet Clipboard To Copy Paste Text Between Computers

Clip is a very simple idea with a great use. We often want to transfer data from one computer to another but the only modes traditionally available are either through storage devices or emailing it to yourself and opening it on a different computer. Clip introduces a new way. It is by no means a unique functionality but it is a great feature that lets you create a temporary text area with a custom URL. Copy anything to that custom URL and then access it anywhere and from any machine.

It works like a web-based clipboard letting you save information on one computer and accessing it on another through a specific URL. You can choose your URL to be whatever you want. You can also edit the text from any machine and any time.

MultiCopy: Copy Multiple Texts To The Clipboard

Have you ever mistakenly copied a text over something you already had on the clipboard? When this happens there is usually no way to recover the previously copied text. What you need is a tool that supports multiple text copies on the clipboard. If you are not a fan of Office Clipboard, then the next best thing to use is MultiCopy.

MultiCopy is an excellent browser add-on for Mozilla Firefox. The add-on lets you copy multiple texts on the clipboard in a series. You can highlight one piece of text, copy it, and then highlight another piece of text to copy it and append to the previous text on the clipboard. Thus when you finally paste the text in a browser field, everything you copied gets pasted. The MultiCopy clipboard can be cleared any time using an option in the browser’s right-click menu.

Note: MultiCopy works best only for operations within the Firefox browser.

URLHistory: Save & Leave Comments With URLs Copied To The Clipboard

If you bookmark a lot of URL’s for later viewing, your bookmarks folder is probably very cluttered by now. Here to offer a simple solution is a tool called URLHistory.

URLHistory is a free application for Windows computers. Sized at nearly 400KB, the app is a portable EXE file and does not require any installation. While running, the app monitors the items copied to the clipboard through the System Tray. When you copy a URL to the clipboard, the app pops up a dialog box asking you to leave a comment with the URL; leaving this comment is optional. You can later access the app’s System Tray icon to view all the URLs you have copied to your clipboard.

Codr.cc: Easily share & explain code online & create code snippets

While explaining your code to somebody, you often have to refer to specific lines. Normally these lines are not auto-labeled when somebody else opens your code-containing file. To solve this you can use a website called Codr.cc ““ an alternative way of sharing files containing programming code.

Codr.cc is a simple web service that helps you create snippets from existing files that contain programming code. You can either drop the file into the browser tab with Codr.cc open or you can open the file from the “Select a file” link on the website. The programming language is automatically detected and the necessary highlights are displayed in the resulting display.

This display has its own unique URL that you can share with others. Line numbers on the left provide a useful reference while explaining the code to somebody else. You can enable and disable these line numbers using the “Raw/Highlight” button located at the top; the top also contains the URL for the display. You can copy the code whether or not the line numbers are activated.

Tidypub: Share Text Online In A Reader-Friendly Interface

Whether it is an essay of yours that needs editing or a great chapter from an eBook you want to share, there are times when you need to share large pieces of text online. You can always do this by uploading a document file. However to ensure that the recipient reads the shared text in a reader-friendly interface, you will need to check out a web service called TidyPub.

TidyPub is a free user friendly web service. It helps you share pieces of text ““ small or large ““ online. All you do is type up the text or paste it in the provided text while optionally providing the text a title in the bottom text bar. By clicking on the “˜Publish’ button you will be taken to the webpage where your text is published.

As you can see from the image above, the font is clear and the design is reader-friendlier than most document programs. To share the text you simply use the public URL that is displayed on top of your text’s title.

Sniply: Save Text Snippets from Websites As Shortened URLs

If you are preparing a project that requires you to gather information from the web, then you probably bookmark many websites to read snippets of text on them later. When you revisit the bookmarked sites, rediscovering the snippets you found interesting can be quite time consuming particularly if the page has a lot of text on it. But thanks to Sniply, this problem now has an effective solution.

Sniply is a free and useful web tool. Essentially it is a URL shortening tool but with a very unique feature: it lets you save snippets of text on each webpage before you shorten its URL. Once the snippet is selected and the URL shortened, you can revisit the URL and find the snippet placed upon the original webpage.

Sniply can be used on its website or, for quicker access, you can use its bookmarklet or Chrome extension. You can also connect your Twitter and Facebook accounts with the service and share the shortened URLs on your respective networks. The site also lets you directly email the shortened URL.
