SimpleText: Take Notes & Store Them Online

If you’re in the habit of taking notes while you work on your computer, chances are you use Notepad, or some other note-taking programs that can save notes onto your hard drive. But what if the precious file with your notes in it gets deleted? You can imagine how drastic that loss can be.

One of the best solutions to this problem is to store important notes online. While such applications do exist, many tend to be too fancy and bandwidth-hogging. Note-taking is meant to help you, not slow you down. Today I came across basic note-taking online service SimpleText.ws

It is a web tool designed to store ‘human sized’ text i.e. text which you write as notes, and not as lengthy thesis papers. While the site is secure, the author suggests people not to store any sensitive information (such as credit card numbers) on the site – better safe than sorry.

To get started, create an account by clicking the ‘Sign In’ button on the homepage. If you have a Google account, you can use it to sign in. Here’s how the note panel looks like:

As you can see, the entire panel has a very simple text storage interface, much similar to Notepad. You can type your notes and not worry about losing them. Unlike manual syncing, SimpleText.ws merges your changes so you’ll never lose data.

NotePub is a web app to save and share notes. It is almost like a wiki barring the complexities. I’ll admit that the first impression isn’t good since the homepage looks cluttered but once you use it you’ll know that it’s really comprehensive in what it offers.

Registration is free and you don’t require to enter your email address. You can create notes, insert pictures, encrypt data, create to-do list and even go back to the previous version of a note.

CopyTaste is a free web based service that provides you with sharable URL where you can quickly publish text online. It features multifunctional WYSIWYG text editor, along with the option to insert videos and pictures into your post.

Temporary paste bin for sharing text notes. Simply copy and paste some text and get a short TinyPaste link pointing to the shared text. Post this link on Twitter, add it to emails, chat messages… anywhere. Of course you can always email the stuff on your own, but TinyPaste makes it a bit easier. Especially for something that needs to be shared with several people over and over. Or for sites like Twitter which limit messages to 140 charaters.

Free, extremely simple and fast online clipboard. It allows you to instantly create a webpage where you can paste any text and store it online. Want to quickly move text from one PC to another? Simply paste it to cl1p and access it from any PC afterwards. It’s like a scrapbook. It can also be used for basic text collaboration.

Each cl1p page gets its own address under cl1p.net domain (ex. www.cl1p.net/makeuseof/) and can be accessed and edited from that address only. Overall, it’s a pretty good tool for quick note-keeping and informal multi-person collaboration.
