WebCam Avatar: Create Animated GIF Avatars Through Your Webcam

Animated GIFs can serve as excellent avatars for your online networking or forum accounts. Normally you would create a GIF image of your own pictures by taking different snapshots through your webcam, then passing the shot images through a GIF creator. Using 2 or more apps for the process normally becomes necessary. However with an app called WebCam Avatar, the process can be completed within a single tool.

WebCam Avatar is a free to use web app that lets you create animated GIFs from images taken through your webcam. You need not register for any accounts on the site. All you do is visit the tool’s homepage and then grant it access to your webcam. You can begin shooting images from your webcam from then onwards. By letting you select a few GIF-specific options such as frame interval and maximum width and height, the app quickly generates a GIF avatar.

The resulting GIF image can be directly downloaded. A sharing URL and an embeddable HTML code for the GIF are also provided.

AvatarHarmony: Synchronize Your Profile Picture Across Multiple Networks

Having multiple social networking accounts online means having to individually update your profile picture on each network. But you can easily get rid of that inconvenience, thanks to a web service called Avatar Harmony.

AvatarHarmony works for users of Facebook, Twitter, and Gravatar. All you have to do is visit the homepage of Avatar Harmony and connect at least two of your networking accounts from Facebook, Twitter, and Gravatar. Thumbnails of the display pictures of your connected accounts will be shown; under these you will be able to choose your default display picture. The selected network’s picture will be synchronized across other networks.

So if you selected Facebook as your default choice, display pictures you upload on Facebook can be easily synchronized to Twitter and Gravatar.

Google+ is gaining an increasing number of members. If you are using Google+ and would like to show it on other social networks, all you need is a Google+ avatar image. This can be made using a site called GplusPic.

GplusPic is a free to use avatar creator that creates a Google+ avatar for you. You upload a picture, choose a square region in it, select the position of the Google ribbon, and download the resulting JPG image. If you are into creating crazy or funny looking avatars then you will like this new service called Eightbit.me. The name instantly suggests that the service has got something to do with 8-bit. That’s true. It helps you create an 8 bit avatar of yourself. And they actually look pretty cool! You need to sign up with them via Twitter (uses OAuth) and then you can create a full-body avatar that shows a slight movement too. Their homepage displays some examples of user avatars.

Overall this is a nice service to play with and I couldn’t find anything else apart from letting you create 8-bit full body avatars. Their homepage also plays music automatically which will remind you of video games, like Mario.
