]]> FLVPlay is a free Youtube video player and downloader that works on top of Adobe AIR. Using FLVPlay you are able to search and play Youtube videos right from your desktop without using the web browser. There is also an option to download and store videos to your computer. Like many other Adobe Air programs FLVPLay comes with a nice looking visual interface.

To view downloaded videos you will need a Flash player. I recommend VLC for that purpose. Both FLVPlay and VLC are cross-platform and can be installed on Mac, Windows or Linux PCs. And finally, both of the apps are light-weight and don’t contain any spyware.

Adobe Media Player: Adobe’s attempt to bring TV to Desktop

]]> Adobe Media Player is a new Adobe Air application that aims to bring the TV to your desktop. Something very similar to the previously profiled Joost. Using Adobe Media Player, you can watch a number of popular TV programs from the convenience of your desktop, schedule and download your favorite episodes automatically, etc.

At the moment this service has about 25 channels, including CBS, Comedy Central (coming soon), MTV, PBS, Nickelodeon (coming soon) and Universal Music group. It’s quite likely that the number of channels will increase over time.

Media Player runs on Windows, Mac, and Linux PCs, and the only requirement it has is Adobe Air. If you don’t have it already you will be prompted to get it while installing the Media Player.
