FindList: Add-On That Turns Your Searches Into A Drop-Down List [Firefox]

When searching for the same word or phrase on multiple webpages, it becomes annoying that Firefox doesn’t remember the word or phrase and you have to re-enter it every time. FindList solves this problem by saving your last 50 webpage searches into a drop-down list.

It eliminates the re-typing or copy-pasting of keywords when doing extensive searches on a webpage and keeps you more organized. You can set preferences such as the number of entries you want to keep in the list (default is 50) and the field width. If you want, you can also set the option to stop it from keeping entries for a while. One thing that can be added to make the extension even better is the ability to delete individual search terms from the list.

Make Address Bar Font Size Bigger: Increase The Font Size Of URL In Address Bar [Firefox]

If you use Firefox as your main browser and also have eyesight problems that require you to see bigger fonts wherever possible on the computer, then you’d like this add-on. The name pretty much says it all. It helps you make the fonts in the browser address bar bigger in size. It makes it easy and effortless by placing a small icon beside the address bar which lets you toggle on and off the font size of website URLs, and search terms you type there.

Another nice thing about this simple extension is that the fonts in the auto-complete dropdown menu – that pops up as you start typing in the address bar – will also appear bigger. So no special CSS tweaking needed anymore.

FlashControl: Block Flash From Auto-Playing On Webpages [Chrome]

I’m sure you have come across websites on the Internet that start playing those video ads without your permission, or may be a video sharing site that starts playing videos even before you hit the play button. This can be annoying and FlashControl is a Chrome extension that helps you prevent this from happening on Chrome. It basically blocks Adobe Flash Player from playing automatically on webpages. It also offers selective re-blocking and whitelisting of certain sites, so there are options to customize it.

The extension is a Google code project, and works somewhat similar to the popular AdBlock extension that disables ads on webpages. If you are a geek, there are many more options in this tool to play around with.

If you are looking for a good translation tool for Firefox then you might want to give this add-on called Translate This! a try. It’s a simple tool that gets the job done effectively and also offers some extras. It uses Google Translate and you can translate specific text on the page or the entire page using it. You could also directly translate a link without opening it by using the “Translate this! – Link” option in the right-click menu.

The settings of the add-on offers 2 options. First, the ability to set the default language code and whether to open the translated page in a new or the same tab and secondly, the ability to set a keyboard shortcut.

Clea.nr: Clutter Free YouTube & Amazon Browsing

Clea.nr is a site that provides browser extensions for Chrome, Firefox and Safari that help you browse two very popular sites – YouTube and Amazon – in a clean, clutter-free interface. It eliminates everything that it considers unnecessary and helps you focus on the main item on the page. It doesn’t work like those readability add-ons which, when clicked, clean ups webpages; instead it uses its own interface on top of YouTube and Amazon to take control right from the start.

As you can see in the screenshots above, after installing this extension, when you visit YouTube or Amazon, it redirects you to the Clea.nr version of the site from where you can start your searching and browsing. Not sure if all users would like this aspect but it does eliminate the clutter.

It adds a lot of features to Google Reader, some of which are a colored list view, an unread counter that shows the exact number of unread items even if it’s more than 1000, an advert remover, various skins to apply as the theme and much more.

Since it is a Chrome extension, you’ll need to use Reader in Chrome to ensure that this extension works. A simplicity fan like me might not want to use this extension, but if you are a power RSS user who browses hundreds of feeds every day, you should check it out.

Glass: Share Information & Thoughts About A Webpage In Real-Time

Glass is a browser add-on that makes real-time sharing of information – and thoughts on a particular webpage you are browsing – simple and easy. The extension is available for Firefox and Chrome, and you need to sign up to get started. Friends can be invited and added. It uses a pop-up window (called a slide) that’s like a layer on the webpage you are browsing, and helps you share your thoughts about the site by placing notes, including pictures, videos etc. You can also chat with friends using the same slide.

The user can view the slides created by or commented on by contacts from his/her lists. Slides can be searched using filters, and they can also be emailed to just about anyone.

Keep My Opt-Outs: Chrome Extension To Opt Out Of Google Ads

Tracking browser cookies to serve adverts that are tailored to the user’s likes and dislikes is a practice that has been going on for years. But these methods prompt privacy concerns time and again. Google has now come up with a Chrome extension called Keep My Opt-Outs that lets users permanently opt out of personalized ads and prevent the ad agencies from tracking your browser cookies. It is currently only available for Chrome, and works only for the ad programs that offer an opt-out option.

A thing to keep in mind here is that if you use this extension, ads around the web could get repetitive and monotonous. It could also result in a decline in profits for the sites you visit because their site would be no longer serving the best ads to you.
